The New York Knicks might hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference entering Sunday's NBA slate, but their recent performances haven't reflected a team like that. Just 4-6 over their past 10 games, with a handful of blowout losses, the Knicks will look to avoid a 0-2 start to their road trip on Sunday when they face the Portland Trail Blazers.
While the Trail Blazers haven't been stellar this season, entering Sunday's contest a game below .500, they are 7-3 in their past 10 games. Led by a likely first-time All-Star in Deni Avdija and Shaedon Sharpe, having a career-best season, the Trail Blazers aren't a team that can be overlooked.
Taking a look at the injury report for the Knicks, Landry Shamet (shoulder) remains OUT for the Knicks, with Trey Jemison III (two-way) OUT as well.
Shamet last appeared on November 22nd, playing just under three minutes in a start against the Orlando Magic before exiting with an injury. With all the inconsistencies going on with the Knicks, adding Shamet back into the fold will provide the team with some quality floor spacing.
While Guerschon Yabusele (quad) is listed as QUESTIONABLE, the most notable player listed is Josh Hart (ankle), who holds the QUESTIONABLE tag as well.
Commonly referred to as the glue guy for the Knicks, Hart last appeared during the team's Christmas Day victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 15 points in 26 minutes of action. In the games Hart has since missed, the Knicks hold just a 3-5 record.
Adding Hart won't solve all their problems, but he could help steer the team back in the right direction to a team that looked like an NBA Finals contender earlier last month.
The injury report for the Trail Blazers is lengthy, as it has been for a large part of the season.
The players listed as OUT for Sunday's contest include Jerami Grant (Achilles), Scoot Henderson (hamstring), Damian Lillard (Achilles), Kris Murray (lumbar), Matisse Thybulle (knee), and Blake Wesley (foot).
With six players already ruled OUT, the list doesn't stop there, as Jrue Holiday (calf) and Robert Williams III (knee) round out the list with a PROBABLE injury designation.
Sunday will mark the first of just two regular-season matchups between the Knicks and Trail Blazers. With the Knicks looking to avoid dropping in the standings and the Trail Blazers looking to reach .500, both sides should be motivated to walk away with a win.
Tip-off in Portland at the Moda Center is set for 6:00 p.m. EST.
