The New York Knicks (22-9) will be without one of their key players as they finish out their three-game road trip through the South.
Josh Hart is dealing with a sprained ankle and will not play until the team returns home, according to a report from Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.
"Josh Hart will not play during this current three-game road trip because of his sprained ankle and will be re-evaluated when the Knicks return, league sources tell The Post," Bondy reported.
Hart hurt his ankle during New York's 126-124 come-from-behind win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day.
Before leaving the game, Hart put together a solid stat line with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting along with five rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes.
The Knicks rallied from a 17-point fourth-quarter deficit to pull off the victory, but Hart's injury put a damper on an otherwise great night.
The veteran forward has been playing well this season, averaging 12.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from three.
His all-around play on both ends of the floor has made him one of the most important pieces of what head coach Mike Brown is trying to build in New York.
Hart's absence is a big deal for a Knicks team that has struggled away from Madison Square Garden this season.
New York entered the road trip with a 5-7 record on the road compared to their dominant 16-2 mark at home.
The team opened the trip on Saturday night with a 128-125 win over the Atlanta Hawks, improving their record to 22-9 on the season and keeping pace in the Eastern Conference standings.
Without Hart in the lineup, the Knicks will lean more heavily on Miles McBride and Jordan Clarkson to fill the void.
Clarkson has already shown he can step up when needed, pouring in 25 points off the bench in the Christmas Day win over Cleveland.
The Knicks still have two games left on this trip before heading back to New York.
They visit the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday before wrapping things up against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
Both games will test New York's depth without their do-it-all wing, but the team has shown all season that they can handle tough situations and find ways to win when it matters most.
Hart will be re-evaluated once the Knicks return home, and the team will provide updates on his status as they become available.
