Knicks' Key Starter Remains On Injury Report vs Pistons cover image

The New York Knicks will once again be without one of their starters against the Detroit Pistons on Monday

The start of 2026 has not been kind to the New York Knicks, as they enter Monday night on a three-game losing streak, having gone 0-2 since the new year began. Not winning games surely wasn't a part of the team's New Year's resolutions, and they'll look to get back on track and in the win column against the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

The Knicks have been in pursuit of the top seed in the Eastern Conference for a while now, but their recent struggles have them sitting three games back of the Pistons, who are 26-9 on the season. The two sides have yet to face off this season, so it will be a measuring stick contest to see how the two sides stack up against each other.

Knicks Injury Report

Looking at the injury report for the Knicks on Monday, two familiar names remain on the report, as Josh Hart (ankle) and Landry Shamet (shoulder) are both OUT.

For Hart, it's set to be his sixth-straight game sidelined, last appearing in the win on Christmas Day over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Knicks have struggled as of late defensively, and some fans have pointed to the absence of Hart as a reason for that. Whether or not that's the case, the Knicks could use him right now amid this slump.

As for Shamet, he's set to miss his 21st-straight after suffering an injury on November 22nd in a win over the Orlando Magic. Shamet was seeing some time as a starter before going down with an injury, and while he's unlikely to return to that role, he'll play some role in New York's loaded guard rotation.

Pistons Injury Report

Detroit's injury report features several key players, with key contributors in Jalen Duren (ankle) and Tobias Harris (hip) ruled OUT for Monday's contest.

Additionally, Duncan Robinson (calf) is listed as PROBABLE, and Caris LeVert (knee) is listed as DOUBTFUL. Cade Cunningham (hip) is also listed on the report, holding a PROBABLE designation.

Game Preview

Assuming Cunningham is able to go, Monday night will see a battle between arguably the two best point guards in the Eastern Conference. Both Cunningham and Jalen Brunson have been playing at an MVP and All-NBA level this season, and they'll face off for the first time this season.

With a chance to add some points to their MVP campaigns, tip-off in Detroit is set for 7:00 p.m. EST.
