New York Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony wants to see more from forward OG Anunoby

There are always debates in NBA circles on who is the best player overall or in certain categories. For some, like the best shooter, Steph Curry is undoubtedly the best, but not every category has a clear-cut winner. Over the last decade or so, the argument over who is the best two-way player in the league is constantly brought up.

A few years ago, it was a crown that was debated between Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Anthony Davis. However, all of those players are in the later part of their careers now, as a new crop of two-way players has started to shine. According to New York Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony, there are two players he has in mind for that crown.

Carmelo Anthony Debates Top Two-Way Player

Speaking on his podcast, 7PM in Brooklyn, Anthony said that he gives the current crown to the best two-way player to Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who is putting up a career-best season.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined and becoming the leader of this team, Brown is averaging 29.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 49.5% from the field and 37.6% from three. On top of that, the Celtics boast the second-best scoring defense in the NBA, with Brown being a key to their success there.

However, Anthony also recognizes Knicks forward OG Anunoby in that race, but doesn't think he has the mentality yet to hold that honor.

“I love OG as being the best two-way player, I just don't believe OG believes he’s the best two-way player," Anthony said.

At 6-foot-7 and 240 lbs, there aren't many players that Anunoby can't guard on the court. On top of that, he can be a 20-point-per-game scorer, but sits behind Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns in terms of offensive options.

While the stats clearly favor Brown, Anthony recognizes that and is calling upon Anunoby to be more consistent.

"OG...his consistency as being the best two-way player in the league, is just not there," Anthony said.

In his past 10 games, Anunoby is averaging 15.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field and 32% from three. It's been a mix of strong and underwhelming performances, but the Knicks can truly become an elite contender if they get the version of Anunoby that is crashing the glass, disrupting on defense, and finding his shots offensively.
