The New York Knicks have made a final decision on which of Bruce Brown and James Wiseman will make the roster.

With the NBA regular season fast approaching, the time is now for teams across the league to make their final roster cuts and additions.

The New York Knicks are one of those teams, and while there weren’t many extra moves to make considering how complete the Knicks already are, there was some fine-tuning that needed to be done.

Making Cuts

The final roster decisions that the Knicks made concerned both guard Bruce Brown and forward/center James Wiseman.

Per a report from ESPN’s Shane Charania, the Knicks are waiving Brown while keeping Wiseman on as a reserve center.

Both Brown and Wiseman were brought on in training camp contracts this offseason and were fighting it out for a final spot on the defending champions’ roster, though Wiseman was going into that battle with a definite advantage.

Looking at the way the Knicks’ roster is constructed, that is both a surplus of guards and a severe deficit of big men. Looking at that fact alone, Wiseman was always going to fill core of a need than Brown would have, regardless of the actual performance during preseason.

As a result, Brown will have to continue looking elsewhere for a team to play for in what will be his ninth NBA season.

Wiseman’s Value

Wiseman will be going into his sixth NBA season and first with the Knicks after spending the last two seasons with the Indiana Pacers.

During the 2025-26 season, Wiseman averaged 3.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 14.5 minutes per game with the Pacers.

That production level will slot directly into what the Knicks will need out of a reserve center and Wiseman’s size alone made him an enticing target for the Knicks to keep around long term this season.

Standing at 6’11 and 240 pounds, Wiseman will slot in behind centers Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond to provide the Bruins with some much-needed depth late in the game.

Wiseman has traveled around the NBA since his injury-ridden days playing for the Golden State Warriors and he’s since seen his role across the NBA dwindle to the point where he has only played just five NBA games combined over the last two seasons, but his potential and physicality is still there.

In a low-pressure role with the Knicks, Wiseman could find his stride again, but even if he stays on the fringe if games as a reserve, he’ll be filling a valuable spot on the roster.
