The Knicks are wasting no time, reshaping their training camp roster just a day after it began.
The New York Knicks kicked off their training camp on Tuesday. 24 hours later, they've already made a couple of tweaks to the fringes of their roster.
The defending NBA champions waived John Konchar and N'Daly Fante on Wednesday morning.
The Knicks brought in seven-year veteran guard Konchar on Sept. 15. He was one of the more experienced free agents remaining on the market at the time, after spending his first six seasons in the league in Memphis before being traded to Utah midseason last year. He averaged 5.9 points, three assists, and 5.7 rebounds across 26 games with the Jazz.
Fante signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the franchise earlier this month and was hoping to impress the Knicks during camp, having amassed little big-league experience since going undrafted in 2024.
Fante has just eight NBA games to his name. He has spent most of his time in the pros in the G League (44 games) thus far.
Why Did The Knicks Waive Them?
Petre Thomas-USA TODAY SportsPer reports, Konchar has been away from the team this week, tending to a personal matter. The Knicks and Konchar have decided to part ways for now, as a result, allowing him additional time away.
Judging by the wording, the door may be open for a potential reunion in the future.
As for Fante, the move appears to be all business. With his lack of NBA burn, he was unlikely to make an impact on the Knicks roster right away. However, he is now incentivized to sign with New York's G League affiliate in Westchester, having been assessed by head coach Mike Brown and his staff.
Corresponding Moves
Brad Penner-Imagn ImagesThe Knicks were quick to make a pair of corresponding moves in order to keep their camp numbers intact.
New York signed promising guard Jaden Akins to its final two-way slot.
Akins impressed the Knicks brass during Summer League in Las Vegas, and the organization seems intent on investing further in developing the 23-year-old. Kevin McCuellar Jr. and Tyler Nickel fill out the remaining two-way spots.
Additionally, the Knicks have signed veteran big man Tony Bradley to a non-guaranteed training-camp contract.
Bradley is a former 28th overall pick by the Lakers in 2017. He was traded to Utah on draft night and has been with six different franchises since. He famously earned a 10-day contract and a subsequent rest-of-season deal with the Indiana Pacers in 2025, helping them on their Finals run.
