The New York Knicks enter the NBA Cup Semifinals without two key depth pieces vs the Orlando Magic
Based on the altercation between OG Anunoby and Desmond Bane in the last matchup between the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic, it seems as though the two top Eastern Conference sides could be brewing a rivalry of sorts this season. On Saturday, for their fourth matchup of this season, the stakes will be the highest they've been with an NBA Cup Finals berth on the line.
Through three games this season, the Magic have the edge, taking the first two games before the Knicks defeated them recently, 106-100, to give themselves a chance to even the season series up on Saturday. With a chance at $500,000 on the line for each player, the stars will definitely be looked at to step up and lead their respective teams to a victory.
Knicks Injury Report
For the Knicks, the stars will definitely be called upon often, as they are set to be without Miles McBride (ankle) and Landry Shamet (shoulder) as both are listed as OUT for Saturday's contest.
Both guards have had a handful of starts this season, but whether they've been on the bench or in the starting lineup, they've proved their value to this Knicks team. McBride has made 20 appearances this season for the Knicks, along with nine starts, where he's averaged 11.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 44.4% shooting from three.
As for Shamet, he's made 15 appearances with six starts, averaging 9.3 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 42.4% from beyond the arc. With the Knicks without two of their top shooters, they'll need strong performances from Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart, as they are the three most efficient shooters on the team outside of Shamet and McBride.
Pacome Dadiet (ankle) is the only other name listed, as he's QUESTIONABLE as game time approaches.
Magic Injury Report
As for the Magic, they'll be without the Wagner brothers, as Franz (ankle) and Mo (knee) are both listed as OUT. For Franz, he's been making his push to his first All-Star game this season, as he's averaging 22.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting a career-high 36% from three.
Mo has yet to make his season debut for the Magic, after agreeing to a one-year, $5 million deal as he recovers from a torn ACL.
Game Preview
While both sides have high-quality role players/borderline stars, this matchup could very well come down to Jalen Brunson versus Paolo Banchero. Brunson might have a better track record in big games, as a Clutch Player of the Year winner, but Banchero now gets his opportunity as the lead guy for Orlando with Franz out.
Tip-off at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is set for 5:30 p.m. EST, with Spurs-Thunder to follow to determine the NBA Cup Finals matchup.
