The New York Knicks lost to the Miami Heat Sunday night in South Florida. The Knicks attempted 54 3-point field goals and only connected on 15 of them for a dismal 27.7 percent success rate. The Heat shot 35.13 percent from downtown to secure the win. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 37 points.

Miami Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra noticed something different about the New York Knicks play under Mike Brown as opposed to the way they played under Tom Thibodeau.

“There’s some schematic changes, playing faster a little bit, but they’re a well-schooled team,” Spoelstra said before the game on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News. “They have veteran players, they’ve won a lot of games, they’ve won a lot of playoff games. You have to respect that. You just can’t respect it too much.”

One big difference the league is also taking notice of is the fact the Knicks like to shoot the ball from long distance. They had 54 attempts Sunday, compared to only 37 for the Heat. The problem is that the Knicks were ice cold from beyond the arc and made only 15 of those shots.

As such, the Knicks and their frigid outside shot lost to the Heat 115-107 on the Pat Riley Court at The Kaseya Center.

New York was getting good looks the entire game, but could not get the ball to drop. They were working the ball inside and then kicking it back out for a 3-point shot. It was no different than what they did against the Boston Celtics Friday night, but they dropped at The Garden.

One thing that Spoelstra likes to do is run in transition. The Heat did that all night long off of Knicks' missed field goal attempts and won the game going away 115-107.

Perhaps part of the problem was that Miles McBride was missing from the lineup. McBride is one of the Knicks' best 3-point shooters and he missed the game due to what was termed personal reasons.

Further, without McBride, the Knicks bench only contributed 21 points. The Heat bench scored 44. For the Knicks, Jordan Clarkson went 2-of-11 from the field off the bench, while Guerschon Yabusele went 0-for-4 from long distance.

When Brunson was on the bench at the end of the third quarter, and the beginning of the fourth, the Heat went on an 11-0 run in four minutes.

Additionally, the Heat went to the free throw line 10 more times than the Knicks.

“It’s about next man up and whoever goes down, with the versatility of this team, we’re able to plug people in at any given time, and we’re not gonna change what we do just because somebody’s out or down or whatever,” Brown said pregame Sunday. “We’re gonna keep doing what we do, and we’re gonna try to get really, really good at it so that we can impose our will on our opponents as opposed to the other way and we’re trying to chase everything they do.”

Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 37 points. Mikal Bridges scored 20 points and hit 3-of-5 from downtown. For the Heat, Norman Powell scored 29 points while Bam Adebayo delivered a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards.

The Knicks will look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday when they continue their road trip facing the Milwaukee Bucks.
