Knicks’ Updated Depth Chart After Big Additions cover image

A look at the New York Knicks depth chart following the NBA trade deadline and recent additions

The New York Knicks enter the All-Star at 35-20, good enough for third place in the Eastern Conference. They also won the 2025 NBA Cup.

They were hot coming into the break, winning eight of their last ten games. They have a point differential of +6.1, third best in the East, and a net rating of +6.1, fourth best in the league.

Despite being one of the top teams in the league through 55 games, they were not satisfied with how the team looked going into the NBA trade deadline, adding Jose Alvarado in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans and Jeremy Sochan off waivers from the San Antonio Spurs.

New York Knicks Depth Chart

Point Guard: Jalen Brunson, Jose Alvarado, Tyler Kolek

Shooting Guard: Josh Hart, Landry Shamet, Jordan Clarkson, Pacome Dadiet

Small Forward: Mikal Bridges, Kevin McCullar Jr

Power Forward: OG Anunoby, Mohamed Diawara, Jeremy Sochan

Center: Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson, Ariel Hukporti

Out: Miles McBride

McBride is out until at least the playoffs after undergoing surgery for a core muscle injury. If he returns for the playoffs, he would slot in as the second or third point guard or shooting guard, depending on the matchup and what is needed on the floor.

Sochan has an opportunity to move up the depth chart when he actually gets on the floor with the team. Diawara averages just seven minutes per game on the season, although that number is up to 15 minutes per game in the Knicks' last ten due to OG Anunoby missing time.

Assessing The Roster

Of all five-man lineups in the NBA that have played over 200 minutes together, the Knicks' starting lineup has the sixth-best net rating in the league.

The combination of Brunson, Towns, Anunoby, Hart, and Bridges has a 116.8 offensive rating and a 108.8 defensive rating, good enough for a +8 net rating.

Shamet has proven to be one of the elite shooters in the league, knocking down threes at a 42% clip on five attempts per game.

Robinson provides two-way impact and a change of pace behind Towns with his inside game.

Alvarado has already had a quick impact in three games, averaging 14 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.3 steals while shooting 45% from three on seven attempts.

Sochan has yet to suit up, but it's easy to see how he fits in to various lineups with his ability to guard all five positions, his feel for cutting on offense, and his finishing around the rim.
