While the New York Knicks may be as dominant this season as they were last season, it's clear that they're still figuring things out under new head coach Mike Brown. In that process of figuring things out comes trying out new lineups.
On Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets, that's exactly what the Knicks did. The team decided to start Josh Hart in place of Mitchell Robinson, and it resulted in a dominant 129-101 win for New York.
Hart finished the game with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals on 62/67/100 shooting from the field.
"I actually made the decision before Brooklyn," Brown admitted. "I just wanted to change it up, switch it up a little bit. Mitch was sick. So that group went out there, and it's what we started, stayed with it. We'll continue to stay with it to see the direction that it goes. Everything's fluid in the business, anything can happen at any time. Knock on wood if someone goes down, next man has gotta stand up."
Brown went on to reveal that the ability to sacrifice is one of the biggest standards of being a member of his team.
"I go back to what our standard is," Brown said. "The first one is sacrifice. All these guys could start, so somebody has gotta sacrifice. While you're on that, connectivity is there, competitive spirit is there, but more important, the belief is there in each other no matter who is out there in the process. All our guys have been extremely good with it, of understanding what our standards is, and holding each other accountable to our standards.
One thing that Brown isn't afraid to do is make changes. Instead of sticking to a tried and true starting lineup, he's willing to adjust based on the matchup.
"I'm a guy that wants to take a look at different things," Brown said. "I even said this to our staff, at times, if it's the right matchup, I'm not afraid to throw a rookie out there to start. It's all about being early in the season and trying to get the right feel for your team."
