The Knicks have been a victim of their own mistakes.
The New York Knicks have been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA’s young season up to this point. They’re 0-3 following a loss to the Orlando Magic, and the team’s performance has left many confused.
This is a Knicks team that is struggling to shoot the basketball consistently, and against Orlando, they were 9-for-38 from long range.
In the 2026 playoffs, the Knicks were able to shoot the basketball consistently, which helped them cruise through a championship run. This time around, three-point shooting has been the downfall of this team, especially late in games when they need to maintain a lead.
Wendell Cruz-Imagn ImagesKnicks head coach Mike Brown was asked about what has gone wrong with the team’s shooting so far, and he believes his unit has not been focusing on the little things.
“There’s some things, some little things we have to embrace for 48 minutes, and lock in with our effort and concentration on those little things, to help us get over the hump until we get out of this shooting slump,” Brown said.
Another issue for the Knicks through their first three games has been the unforced turnovers. Especially in the game against the Magic, he felt that the turnover issues in that game were self-inflicted, and his guys were not helping themselves with inaccurate passes.
Wendell Cruz-Imagn ImagesBrown believes that those are the kinds of things that have to get cleaned up, especially when his unit is cold from three-point range.
Moving forward, the Knicks are going to have to get out of their own way. This is a team that has been in position to win all three of their games so far, but instead has lost the game in the final two minutes.
This is uncharacteristic of the Knicks, considering they were a team that was very dangerous in the final two minutes last season, thanks to star player Jalen Brunson.
Wendell Cruz-Imagn ImagesBrunson has put together good games for New York so far, but nobody on this team has been able to step up late in games and help them close it out.
If New York can find a way to get him or Karl-Anthony Towns going late in games, that will help them be set up to win more games this season.
The Knicks have a chance to get some momentum back as they take on the Detroit Pistons Tuesday at home. The Pistons have had a strong 3-0 start to their season, but a win here could bring some life back to this team.
