After completing a historic championship season, the Knicks will receive the full national spotlight as they begin their title defense.
The New York Knicks waited 53 years to win another NBA championship. The league is making sure the country gets a clear view of their title defense.
New York is scheduled to play 34 nationally televised games during the 2026-27 season, tied with the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers for the league maximum. The Oklahoma City Thunder follow with 30.
The total is a clear acknowledgment of what the Knicks accomplished last season, when they won the NBA championship and NBA Cup. It also reflects the number of compelling opponents, rivalries and individual returns built into their schedule.
New York will begin its season Oct. 20 against Philadelphia at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks will raise their championship banner before facing a rebuilt 76ers team featuring LeBron James, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid.
Champions receive the spotlight
The opening-night matchup will be the first of four regular-season meetings between the Knicks and 76ers.
New York will visit Philadelphia for an NBA Cup game Oct. 30 before the teams meet again Feb. 11 in Philadelphia and Feb. 27 at Madison Square Garden. All four games are scheduled for national broadcasts.

San Antonio will get two additional opportunities to face New York, including a nationally televised game March 7.
Other notable national matchups include games against Boston, Cleveland, Golden State, Oklahoma City and the Lakers.
The Knicks’ prominence is not based only on the championship. Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns have become two of the league’s most recognizable stars, while Madison Square Garden remains one of its premier stages.

National attention will not make the schedule any easier.
The Knicks face a difficult opening stretch that includes two games against Philadelphia along with matchups against Boston, Orlando and Detroit. The 76ers are expected to contend if healthy, while Boston remains a threat with Jayson Tatum back in the lineup.
New York also has 13 back-to-back sets and at least nine scheduled road games in December. Its travel demands that month could grow depending on how far the team advances in the NBA Cup.

Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers visit Madison Square Garden on Nov. 22 after Haliburton missed last season with an Achilles injury. Giannis Antetokounmpo will make his first appearance at the Garden with the Miami Heat on Nov. 27.
Former Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is scheduled to return with the rival Celtics on March 14 after leaving New York in free agency.
The schedule brings pressure, but that is part of becoming the team everyone wants to beat. The Knicks earned the league’s respect by winning. Now they will receive the national stage that comes with defending the championship.
