The New York Knicks have had anything but an appropriate start to the 2025-26 regular season. Having won their first two games at home, the team would go on to lose three straight on the road before tallying a three-game win streak back inside Madison Square Garden.
While several players continue to impress the fanbase — including Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby — there’s still a select few on the current roster who have yet to live up to their preseason expectations. A team filled with more depth than ever somehow still finds ways to expose its flaws, especially in road environments or late-game situations.
So here are three Knicks players who have struggled the most, disappointing New York fans in the process.
Before you question why Josh Hart is on this list, it’s worth noting that there aren’t many players who have played as consistently throughout the season, received as many minutes as Hart, and still haven’t quite delivered the production fans expected from him.
Hart had a rough start to the 2025-26 regular season, missing the team’s home opener due to mishandled offseason injuries that have lingered through his seven appearances. His three worst games came during New York’s three losses on their record, where he tallied just nine points on lackluster shooting percentages.
Hart hasn’t quite shown the same aggressiveness attacking the rim, shooting the ball with confidence, or locking in defensively the way he did last season. While he’s recorded three straight double-digit scoring outings as of late, the early damage to his rhythm — and the team’s chemistry — has already been felt.
Kolek has had an up-and-down start to the regular season, playing in four straight games with double-digit minutes before appearing in the next four, logging four minutes or fewer in each outing.
Don’t get it twisted — Kolek has shown noticeable improvement defensively and still remains a key ingredient in the Knicks’ long-term recipe for winning. However, something still feels missing from his game, whether it’s a more reliable shooting touch from beyond the arc or the confidence to create off the dribble. Averaging 3.8 points across 10.4 minutes on sub-42% shooting from both ranges, Kolek needs to reassert himself into the rotation sooner rather than later — or else the G League could come calling once again.
This one feels like a no-brainer. Guerschon Yabusele has been New York’s biggest head-scratcher through seven games so far, averaging just 2.0 points and 2.7 rebounds on a brutal 27.3% from both the field and three-point range.
It’s not just the stat sheet that’s been disappointing — it’s the overall lack of impact. His defense in both the interior and perimeter has been below average, his shooting efficiency is at a career low, and his on-court communication seems to falter with every possession.
Yabusele hasn’t just been disappointing, but outright confusing to watch. Even head coach Mike Brown has begun to shy away from giving him minutes, simply because his presence hasn’t elevated the group around him. If things don’t turn around soon, Yabusele could find himself out of the rotation entirely — or worse, off the team.
