Mitchell Robinson says Jalen Brunson’s focus and personality help set the tone for the defending champion Knicks.

Mitchell Robinson sees Jalen Brunson’s leadership in the way he approaches his work every day. Asked about his New York Knicks teammate, Robinson described a star who remains focused while still making room for his personality.

“Jalen (Brunson) is so dialed in,” Robinson said in an interview on YouTube's Major League Madd.

It is a useful description of the guard who led New York to the 2026 NBA championship. Brunson supplies the Knicks with scoring and control of their offense, but Robinson’s assessment speaks to what teammates see around those performances: someone they can count on to arrive ready for the work.

For Robinson, that leadership is firsthand. He plays alongside Brunson through the regular season and the demanding possessions of a playoff run. The center’s comments suggest that Brunson’s influence comes through his habits as much as his production.

Brunson sets the pace

A point guard’s decisions affect every player on the floor. Brunson determines when to push, when to slow the game down and where teammates can receive the ball. Those choices become especially visible late in close games, when a poor possession can undo several minutes of good work.

Robinson has a direct view of that responsibility. As a center, he depends on guards to recognize openings near the rim and keep the offense organized when defenses take away its first option. His praise of Brunson’s focus reflects the value of having a reliable decision-maker in that role.

Brunson’s postseason also gave the Knicks a clear example to follow. New York won the title, and Brunson earned Finals MVP honors after averaging 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the championship series.

The numbers explain why opponents devote so much attention to him. Robinson’s remarks explain why teammates trust him with that attention. Brunson can carry a major scoring burden while remaining responsible for bringing the rest of the lineup into the game.

Leadership after a title

The Knicks enter the new season with expectations shaped by their championship. Repeating will require more than asking Brunson to reproduce a Finals scoring average. New York will need its regular rotation to stay connected as opponents adjust to the defending champions.

That is where a steady leader matters. Robinson’s description points to a player who understands the demands of the job and keeps himself engaged with them. It also leaves room for Brunson to have fun with teammates, a quality Robinson mentioned alongside his focus.

Robinson has his own part to play in New York’s title defense through rebounding, rim protection and the work that rarely appears in a scoring headline. Brunson’s task is to keep directing the team while carrying the attention that comes with being its star.

Those roles meet on every possession. Robinson’s praise makes clear what he values in the man running them: Brunson stays engaged, knows his teammates and takes the responsibility seriously.
