LeBron James announced he's decided to leave the Lakers. Why is that?
After 8 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James announced he has decided to leave the franchise and play elsewhere as he enters his 24th season in the NBA. There have been rumors that James and the front office have had friction during his time there, and now the tension has boiled over, and he is leaving.
Back in January, there were reports from Baxter Holmes that came out, claiming Jeanie Buss had personal issues with LeBron James' behavior. From there, the rumors came swirling in about the possibility of him leaving Los Angeles.
In short, Buss' issues lie mostly with LeBron James' ego. She had many disagreements with the way he carried himself off the court. Things like Klutch Sports' involvement with the Lakers, him feeling ungrateful after the franchise drafted Bronny James, and his lack of accountability for the Westbrook trade are all issues centered around him.
How Did James Feel?
In contrast, it has been reported that James felt disrespected by the Lakers front office and felt as though he was not credited enough for all the success he had in his own career, and also for what he brought to the Lakers organization.
LeBron also had issues with the general manager, Rob Pelinka, since he felt he didn't take into account James' opinions before he made significant changes to the roster. One instance was the Luka Doncic trade.
Stephen Lew-Imagn ImagesIt's been said that Klutch Sports and LeBron may have been left blindsided by the move when it happened and were kept out of the loop. All these issues ultimately led to the decision by LeBron to play elsewhere, and he's looking for a new home that will make him happy.
Considering LeBron is likely playing his last 1-2 seasons on the next team he signs with, the next front office he partners up with will not have to deal with as much drama and pressure to bring certain guys on board to appease him. Instead, the next front office will already have pieces set in stone that will attract LeBron's arrival.
James is going into an offseason where he can basically choose wherever he'd like to go, and rather than trying to influence his front office to sign certain players, he can go join a team he's been eyeing to play with for some time now.
Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesThe Lakers have the issue past them now and have pivoted towards building a roster around Luka Doncic. The franchise is entering a new era, and James is entering what could be the final chapter of his career.
