Green says Dalton Knecht's agent should have moved him out of Los Angeles once the Hornets trade fell apart.
Small forward Dalton Knecht has spent most of training camp hearing that his time with the Los Angeles Lakers may be running out, and now a player from a rival team has his own idea about who is to blame.
Warriors forward Draymond Green brought up Knecht on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, and he put most of the blame on the person who represents him.
What Green Said About Knecht
Green tied the whole situation back to February 2025, when the Lakers agreed to send Knecht to Charlotte before the deal fell apart because the other player in the trade reportedly failed his physical.
Green believes Knecht has been stuck ever since, and he said the trade ruined him.
"I don't know who his agent is but I blame his agent," Green said on the show.
In Green's view, Knecht still being on the Lakers is a sign of poor work by his representation, and the agent should have been working to get him out of Los Angeles from the moment that trade failed.
Green also said Knecht has to understand that not everything will be perfect, and that he would have answered by going to practice the next day and beating everybody.
Why Knecht Is on the Bubble
Knecht is in danger because of roster math.
The Lakers have 16 players on standard deals and can only carry 15 into the season, so somebody has to go, and according to the Post, multiple rival executives expect Knecht to be the odd man out.
He has looked like the most logical name to cut for weeks, with shooting guards Bronny James and Jaden Hardy fighting for the same last spot.
That is a hard fall for a player the Lakers took 17th overall in 2024.
He never found a steady role after the failed trade, and he averaged just 4.2 points in 10.2 minutes across 54 games last season.
Los Angeles picked up his $4.2 million option for this season back in October 2025, so that money is already on the books whether he stays or not.
Head coach JJ Redick has also stood up for him as a hard worker who wants to earn a spot.
What Comes Next for Knecht
Knecht played 12 minutes and went 0-for-1 in the opener in Sacramento on Monday, then scored 11 points in 22 minutes against Green and the Warriors on Tuesday in a 124-98 loss.
That was a nice night, but I don't think one game changes much this late.
Green has a point about the agent, but it only goes so far.
Knecht still controls how he plays, and Green said as much himself when he talked about going back to practice and proving people wrong.
The Lakers host the Kings on Thursday and face the Warriors in Las Vegas next Tuesday, so Knecht has two more chances to make his case.
The Lakers open the regular season against Green and the Warriors at home on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and if Knecht is still in purple and gold that night, he will have earned it on the floor.
If he is gone by then, I would not put all of that on his agent either.
