The Lakers add a versatile two-way threat to the roster.

The Los Angeles Lakers continued an aggressive start to free agency by adding another key piece to their roster, agreeing to terms with guard Quentin Grimes.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract with the Lakers.

The deal includes a player option in the fourth season, giving the 26-year-old guard flexibility while providing L.A. with another talented two-way contributor entering his prime.

The signing marks another significant move in what has been an active offseason for the Lakers, who have prioritized adding younger talent around franchise cornerstones Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.

After addressing their long-standing need at center by acquiring Walker Kessler earlier in the morning, L.A. turned its attention to strengthening the backcourt with one of the top available free-agent guards.

Grimes' Impact in Philly

Grimes is coming off a season with the Philadelphia 76ers in which he averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 45.0% from the field across 75 games.

He has developed into one of the NBA's more reliable perimeter players, averaging 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists over his five-year career while shooting 36.6% from 3.

He also reunites with Dončić after a brief stint in Dallas before the trade that sent the Slovenian to the Lakers.

What it means for Lakers backcourt

The addition provides valuable depth to a Lakers backcourt that is expected to feature multiple ball-handlers and interchangeable lineups throughout the season.

Whether Grimes starts or comes off the bench, he gives head coach JJ Redick another dependable option capable of contributing on both offense and defense.

Originally selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after starring at the University of Houston, Grimes has consistently expanded his game while establishing himself as a valuable rotation player.

The move continues what has quickly become one of the busiest offseasons under Pelinka.

With Walker Kessler filling the team's need for a defensive anchor in the paint and Grimes adding perimeter shooting and defense, the Lakers have addressed two of their biggest priorities heading into the 2026-27 season.

For L.A., adding Grimes is about more than simply improving depth. It is another step toward building a younger, more balanced roster capable of maximizing Dončić and Reaves while competing with the Western Conference's top contenders.

As free agency continues, the Lakers have made it clear they intend to surround their stars with players who can contribute immediately on both ends of the floor.
