Lakers Halt Losing Streak With Blowout Win Over Hawks cover image

The Los Angeles Lakers avoid a four-game skid in massive win over Atlanta Hawks

The Los Angeles Lakers have been looking rough as of late, to say the least. Even though they strung together a three-game winning streak with wins over the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans, it wasn't enough to keep them going as they suffered three-straight losses after that.

On Tuesday night, back at home, the Lakers sought to end their losing ways with the Atlanta Hawks coming to town. Even though the Lakers entered with the talent advantage, that didn't stop the Sacramento Kings in the prior contest when they defeated them. Therefore, it needed to be a total team focus, and that's what they got.

Lakers Shooting Leads Them To Victory

As of late, the Lakers' shooting woes have weighed them down, but that wasn't the case on Tuesday night. In the 141-116 victory over Atlanta, the Lakers shot 58% from the field, to go along with 56% from beyond the arc. Everyone in the starting lineup (except Deandre Ayton) shot 50% or better from three, with Luka Doncic connecting on five of his nine attempts.

"I'm glad we had another game to be honest," Ayton said of the team's win following the loss against Sacramento. "That's a good thing about these back-to-backs and being in the NBA, always got to be ready for the next game and flush out the last one."

While Ayton was joining in on the three-point shooting, he did have one of his best games in a while. He posted 17 points and 18 rebounds, finishing second to Marcus Smart with a +31 plus-minus. After a stretch where it looked like Jaxson Hayes could potentially take the starting job, Ayton came out with a statement game.

As for the Hawks, their likely All-Star in Jalen Johnson was rather limited, held to 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker and CJ McCollum led the way with 26 and 25 points, respectively.

In the first game back for Rui Hachimura since his injury absence, he came off the bench and had seven points in 18 minutes of action. While he'll likely have his chance to earn his spot back in the starting lineup, it's difficult to ignore what Jake LaRavia has been doing from both an offensive and defensive perspective.

Looking ahead for the Lakers, they close out their two-game home stand with the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, before doing a road-home back-to-back over the weekend. Even with three games in four days, the Lakers need to buckle down and find a way to avoid any more slumps.
