Dončić reportedly reached out to the team about making a trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a hot start this season with a 17-6 record, sitting near the top of the Western Conference.

Luka Dončić has been playing at an MVP level for Los Angeles, and it now appears he has some big ideas about how to make the team even better.

According to Fox Chicago's Lou Canellis, Dončić himself asked the Lakers front office about the possibility of trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

What Lou Canellis Said

"I can tell you this for a fact," Canellis said on 670 The Score. "A few months ago, Giannis wanted to be traded. His first choice, New York with the Knicks. Knicks wouldn't move off, would not offer more than just Karl-Anthony Towns, and it just wasn't going to work with the Milwaukee Bucks if they're going to give up Giannis Antetokounmpo. I can tell you that the Lakers inquired and Luka Dončić himself inquired, trying to see if the Lakers could work out a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now remember, Giannis wants to leave because he wants to win."

The report is eye-opening because it shows how much power Dončić already has in Los Angeles, and it also shows his desire to build a championship-level team around him.

Could the Lakers Put Together a Trade Package?

This is where things get tricky for the Lakers. They don't have the best assets to offer compared to other teams that might be interested in Antetokounmpo.

Los Angeles would likely have to include Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and most of their future first-round picks just to get into the conversation.

Dončić is putting up huge numbers this season, averaging 35.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game while leading the Lakers to one of the best records in the West.

Adding a two-time MVP like Antetokounmpo would create one of the most talented duos the league has ever seen.

Where Things Stand in Milwaukee

The Bucks have struggled this season with a 10-15 record, and Antetokounmpo is currently sidelined with a calf injury that is expected to keep him out for two to four weeks.

Before the injury, Giannis was averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game.

Milwaukee's poor start has brought back all the trade talk that was swirling around the team during the offseason.

While Bucks head coach Doc Rivers has said that Antetokounmpo has never asked to be traded, the speculation continues to grow as the team falls further in the standings.

Is This Trade Worth It for the Lakers?

The fit between Dončić and Antetokounmpo would be incredible on paper.

You would have two of the top five players in the world on the same team, both capable of taking over games on their own.

Giannis would give the Lakers elite rim protection and athleticism that they currently lack, while Dončić could run the offense and set up easy looks for him.

However, the cost would be steep. Trading for Antetokounmpo would gut the Lakers' depth, which has been one of their biggest strengths this season.

And there's no guarantee Giannis would stay long-term since his contract includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

For now, the Lakers are playing great basketball and don't need to make any major moves.

But the fact that Dončić is already pushing for the team to add another superstar tells you everything you need to know about his mindset. He's not settling for anything less than a championship.
