LeBron James speaks after the Los Angeles Lakers are swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Los Angeles Lakers' season came to an end on Monday as the Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
Game four was the most competitive game of the series, coming down to the final minutes, with the Lakers leading with 40 seconds remaining. A dunk by Chet Holmgren gave OKC the lead with 33 seconds left.
LeBron James missed a runner off the glass, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander knocked down two free throws, and Austin Reaves missed a three to give OKC the victory.
LeBron James Addresses His Future
LeBron entered his 23rd season dealing with sciatic issues, but once he returned to the lineup in November, he remained relatively healthy, playing 60 games and averaging 33.2 minutes.
At the age of 41, LeBron still proved himself to be one of the best players in the world, working alongside Doncic and Reaves to help the Lakers to the third seed in the West.
Though the season didn't end in a championship, LeBron showed that he had plenty left in the tank as he was arguably the best player on the floor for the Lakers in the series.
After the game, LeBron spoke to the media and addressed his status going into next season.
"You guys have asked me about it and I've answered questions. I don't think I've come out and been like, 'Oh, retirement is coming.' With my future, I don't know. This is still fresh for me. I don't know what the future holds for me. As it stands tonight, I have a lot of time and I'll sit back," he said.
LeBron said that he will recalibrate, speak with his family, and make a decision when the time is right.
The Future of LeBron
If he doesn't retire, LeBron is set to become a free agent in the offseason. He signed with the Lakers in 2018 and has signed two two-year deals following his initial four-year contract.
There have been many reports regarding LeBron's time with the Lakers and whether they would want to bring him back for another run alongside Doncic and Reaves, or if they want to fully commit to their other two stars.
The Golden State Warriors and a return home to the Cleveland Cavaliers have also been rumored destinations for LeBron, should he leave the Lakers.
