The Los Angeles Lakers started their playoff run off on the right foot, winning game one against the Houston Rockets by a final score of 107-98.

Though the Lakers were down two starters in Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, they did get good news from the other side as Kevin Durant was unable to suit up for the Houston Rockets.

Plus, the Lakers still had LeBron James, who remains a force of nature at the age of 41. LeBron finished with 19 points on 9-15 shooting, eight rebounds, and 13 assists compared to just two turnovers.

He also had two steals and a block.

LeBron James Speaks

After the game, LeBron was asked if it was crazy that of all the superstars in the series, he was the one able to play in year 23.

"There's a lot of crazy things been going on this year.  I was on the floor with my son in the playoff game. That's probably the craziest thing that's ever happened to me in my career. I's just so cool to be out there with him and his brother or sister, his mom in the building and his grandma. That's just insane, you know? Like my mom gets to watch her son and her grandson during the playoffs. That's crazy," he said.

Bronny James checked in at the beginning of the second quarter, playing four minutes before subbing out. He had a rough go of things, committing two fouls and a turnover. He didn't play the rest of the game.

LeBron said he didn't give any advice to his son before the game, saying everyone is prepared, but there's nothing you can really do to prepare yourself for the nerves of your first playoff game.

Bronny James In 2025-26

In his second season on the team, Bronny played in 42 games, averaging 2.9 points, .5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 8.9 minutes per game. He did shoot 38% from three on 1.4 attempts per game.

He saw extended playing time in the final ten games of the season due to injuries to Doncic and Reaves, playing 15 minutes per game.

Head coach JJ Redick saw enough encouraging signs in those games to give him a shot in the playoffs.

During the regular season, LeBron and Bronny played 56 minutes together and were a positive on the floor, sharing a +7.1 net rating.

Game two of the series will take place on Tuesday back at Crypto.com Arena.
