LeBron James reflected on his eight-year Lakers run while preparing for whatever comes next in the final stage of his legendary career.

LeBron James is preparing for the next chapter of his NBA journey, but he made sure to recognize the impact of his time with the Los Angeles Lakers.

During a recording of his “Mind the Game” podcast at Fanatics Fest in New York City, James reflected on his eight seasons with the franchise and expressed appreciation for everyone who helped shape his experience in L.A.

“Shout out my former team. I spent eight great years with the L.A. Lakers … That was an unbelievable ride and I am looking forward to what comes next as I wind down my journey,” James said.

“It’s going to be fun wherever I land.”

James also gave credit to Lakers governor Jeanie Buss and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, expressing gratitude for their support throughout his tenure with the organization.

Since joining the Lakers in 2018, James has helped bring a championship back to L.A. while creating one of the most memorable chapters of his career.

A Historic Run in Purple and Gold

James’ arrival changed the direction of the Lakers franchise. After signing in 2018, he helped lead the team to its 17th NBA championship during the 2019-20 season, earning Finals MVP honors after averaging 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists during the championship series against the Miami Heat.

Over eight seasons with the Lakers, James has averaged 25.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.9 assists while shooting 51.3% from the field across 479 games. Even at 41 years old, he remained one of the league’s most productive players during the 2025-26 season, averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 60 games.

His longevity has continued to separate him from nearly every player in NBA history. Across 23 seasons, James owns career averages of 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists while becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer.

The four-time NBA champion has collected 22 All-Star selections, 21 All-NBA honors, four MVP awards and four Finals MVP awards throughout his career. His Lakers tenure also included becoming the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and continue adding to his legacy as one of basketball’s greatest players.

James Keeps Future Plans Private

While James opened up about his appreciation for the Lakers, he remained careful when asked directly about his future.

During the podcast recording, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton attempted to ask James about his decision early in the program. James avoided revealing anything, responding, “Didn’t we already talk about this in the back?”

Haliburton then acknowledged the response and said, “I’ll leave it alone.”

The exchange showed that James is still keeping his next destination private and likely is still taking time to determine which next team he'll play for.

For Lakers fans, James’ comments served as another reminder of the unforgettable impact he had on the franchise. While his playing career is approaching its final stages, his eight years in L.A. will remain one of the defining eras in Lakers history.
