When will LeBron James return to Los Angeles?

Marquee games on the NBA schedule were announced on Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Lakers have a big game on Christmas.

The NBA announced that Luka Doncic and the Lakers will host LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Day. The game will be the third of the five-game slate, taking place at 5 PM ET and airing on ABC and ESPN.

This will be LeBron's return to Los Angeles. He left the team after eight seasons during the offseason, opting to play "meaningful and competitive basketball" elsewhere. He ultimately signed with the 76ers, joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown in the City of Brotherly Love.

What Will The Reception Be?

The way LeBron left with the "meaningful and competitive basketball" comments, taking a shot at the Lakers and the organization, won't endear him to any fans. LeBron is one of the greatest players in NBA history, but he was never viewed as a Lakers legend on the level of Magic Johnson or Kobe Bryant.

He did deliver one championship in 2020 and pulled the Lakers back into the national spotlight after the team struggled in the final years of Bryant and following his retirement.

The trade for Luka Doncic pushed LeBron out of the Los Angeles spotlight as he was no longer the number one option, with fans becoming attached to their superstar of the future.

Lakers fans should remember the championship, the NBA Cup, and how he helped rebuild the franchise by cheering him during introductions. Once the ball is in the air, all bets are off, and he becomes the enemy, especially with the comments he made upon leaving the team.

Other Lakers Announcements

Fans will get their first look at the new-look Lakers on Wednesday, October 21 when the team has its opening game at home against the Golden State Warriors. The game will air on ESPN at 10 PM ET.

This will be the first time Doncic and Austin Reaves will share the floor with new acquisitions Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Kevon Looney, Jaden Hardy, Ziaire Williams, Matisse Thybulle and rookie Cameron Carr in a meaningful basketball game.

The Golden State Warriors may not have been a playoff team last season, and they didn't make a major acquisition that has anyone believing they will be a true threat in the Western Conference this season, but they still have Steph Curry, who remains one of the biggest stars in the league.
