After two straight decades, LeBron James has failed to make an All-NBA team.
For 21 straight years, LeBron James has been the standard of excellence. Since the 2004-2005 NBA season, LeBron James has never missed being on an All-NBA team in his career.
That is, until now.
For the first time since 2005, LeBron James has officially missed being a member of the All-NBA first, second, or third team. However, it's worth noting that LeBron was disqualified due to playing only 60 games instead of the 65-game minimum.
This week, the NBA revealed its All-NBA teams, and LeBron James was not on any of them.
Who Made the List?
The first team was headlined by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, and Cade Cunningham.
The second team was headlined by Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jalen Brunson, and Donovan Mitchell.
The third team was headlined by Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, or Chet Holmgren.
Did LeBron James Deserve to Make the List?
This season, LeBron James was averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals on 51/32/74 shooting from the field in 60 games. He arguably played as a third option for the majority of the season when the Lakers were fully healthy, behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Every single member of the All-NBA team was also an All-Star, with Kawhi Leonard being a reserve who was named due to injury. When LeBron James was named an All-Star this season, many complained that he did not deserve it and only received it due to his legacy.
In all honesty, if there was one year that fans could argue that LeBron James did not deserve to be named All-NBA, it would be this season. The third-best player on his own team is a tough argument to be named an All-NBA member.
However, at the same time, one could very easily argue that LeBron James could have been on the team in place of Chet Holmgren. It's very easy to claim that James is both a better player and more important to team success than Holmgren.
What Comes Next for LeBron?
All eyes are on LeBron to see whether or not he remains on the Los Angeles Lakers or finds a new team to join. In order to stay with the Lakers, he'll likely need to take a pay cut, especially as the team needs to try to pay Austin Reaves.
