The NBA All-Star experience changes from city to city, but the same principle remains: the best players in the world all getting together on one big stage. Every professional sports league does it differently, but the NBA marks it near the middle of the year, marking a halfway point of sorts for the season.
There's still plenty of basketball ahead, but fans don't get to see this collection of talent on one court other than at All-Star. Most of these players will play on the big stage in the postseason, but some will have to sit at home, meaning this is their big showcase. For Luka Doncic, this is just the tip of the iceberg for him.
Doncic earned his sixth career All-Star selection in 2026, being selected as a starter yet again as he leads the NBA in points per game, just under 33 a night.
Unfortunately, fans didn't get to see much of Doncic, who entered the weekend battling an injury. He was limited to just five minutes of action and played in only the first game for Team World. He logged two points and two assists, going 1-of-3 from the field.
Before the contest, Doncic was asked, though, about his favorite part of All-Star weekend. Even though there are plenty of events and activities for players to show up and participate in, Doncic just admires the game itself.
"I would just say the game. Playing with the best guys in the world. Just being there, taking the moment in, and just enjoying it," Doncic said.
As mentioned, Doncic didn't get to enjoy much of the game itself, and his presence on the court could've very well swung the game in Team World's favor.
While they were eliminated from making the championship game, they played without arguably the four best players in the world: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Doncic. Factor in Victor Wembanyama putting on a sensational performance, and it could've been Team World's game to lose.
Given the success of this format, it would make sense that it continues on into next season, where the games will be hosted in Phoenix in 2027. If Giannis, Jokic, Shai, Doncic, and Wembanyama are all healthy and can team up again, it'll be difficult for Team USA to hold its crown as the winners going forward.
Doncic will now shift his attention to the Los Angeles Lakers' season in hopes of making a deep playoff run in 2026.
