Luka Dončić’s encouraging health update should quiet concerns about the hamstring injury that ended his season.

Luka Dončić has delivered the offseason update Los Angeles Lakers fans have been waiting to hear.

Dončić said he is fully recovered after spending the beginning of the offseason rehabilitating the left hamstring injury that prevented him from participating in the Lakers’ playoff run.

“I took a real break from basketball the first few weeks after the season ended to rehab my body,” Dončić said in an email to fans on 77x.world, “My recovery went great, and I’m 100% healthy again.”

That declaration should ease concerns surrounding the health of L.A.’s franchise centerpiece with training camp scheduled to open in late September.

A difficult end to an outstanding season

Dončić injured his left hamstring during an April 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He did not play again, missing the Lakers’ final five regular-season games and their entire postseason run.

The injury was especially frustrating because Dončić had already missed four games before the All-Star break with a milder hamstring issue. He eventually progressed to running and shooting during the postseason but had not been cleared for contact work when L.A.’s season ended.

Dončić later acknowledged that he was not particularly close to returning. His rehabilitation ultimately extended through the beginning of the offseason, making his latest update especially significant.

Before the injury, Dončić was having one of the best seasons of his career. The 27-year-old led the NBA with 33.5 points per game while adding 8.3 assists, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals across 64 appearances, according to NBA.com.

L.A. advanced past the Houston Rockets in the opening round without him but was swept by Oklahoma City in the Western Conference semifinals.

Dončić preparing for a new challenge

The Lakers will look considerably different when Dončić returns.

LeBron James departed for the Philadelphia 76ers, while L.A. reshaped the roster by acquiring Walker Kessler and adding Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Kevon Looney and Matisse Thybulle.

Those moves were designed to provide Dončić with more shooting, athleticism and defensive support. Their effectiveness, however, still depends heavily on his availability.

Dončić explained that stepping away from basketball briefly is part of his typical offseason process. He believes allowing himself to miss the game helps renew his motivation before returning to work.

That approach may look unusual for a player carrying enormous expectations, but the important part is the result. Dončić says he is healthy, motivated and ready to begin preparing for another season.

After watching a hamstring injury end an MVP-caliber campaign, Lakers fans could not have received a more reassuring update.
