Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic points out what helped the Charlotte Hornets defeat them on Thursday night.

The Los Angeles Lakers put an end to their three-game losing streak on Tuesday, defeating the Atlanta Hawks 141-116, a contest where the team looked more like the group that was 15-4 entering December. Looking to build off that performance, the Lakers hosted the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night.

Entering the game with a 13-26 record, it's misleading for a Hornets team that is full of talented players. With the Hornets just 1-3 in their last four contests before Thursday's game, it seemed like the momentum was still favoring the Lakers on their home floor at the Crypto.com Arena. That wasn't the case.

Lakers Suffer Fourth Loss In Five Games

The first quarter made it seem like the Lakers were carrying over their play from the contest prior, but then the Hornets took over, winning the next three quarters and never giving the lead back after the second quarter en route to a 135-117 victory.

It was a stellar shooting night from the Hornets, who shot 54% from the field and 47% from three-point range, missing just one free-throw attempt. A disappointing performance from the Lakers, star guard Luka Doncic pointed out after the game what he thinks went wrong for his team.

"They made a lot of shots. We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds. From there, they just hit like, what we call daggers. So I think that was the game there," Doncic said.

The Lakers were out-rebounded 50-35, allowing 14 offensive rebounds by the Hornets. While it's typically Moussa Diabate controlling the offensive glass for the Hornets, it was actually a total team effort on Thursday, with eight players grabbing at least one offensive rebound, and four having two or more.

Even with that, the Lakers still ended the game with one more shot attempt than the Hornets, but their poor shooting didn't help them make up the difference.

"We had a great start, and then we just kinda fell off," he added.

While the Lakers shot 55.6% as a team in the opening quarter and led 39-30 after the first 12 minutes, it was mainly Doncic who was off to a hot start. The Lakers' superstar shot 7-of-12 from the field in the first quarter, finishing with 19 points and two assists while playing the whole period.

Some might point to Austin Reaves being sidelined as a major reason for the poor play as of late, but one player isn't going to fix the team's poor rebounding, three-point shooting, and three-point defense.

JJ Redick has proven he's a strong basketball mind through almost a season and a half of coaching with the Lakers, so either he needs to experiment with more lineups and game plan better, or this team needs to make some changes.

The trade deadline is set for February 5th, so it looks like it's time for Rob Pelinka to hit the phones and try to find some pieces that can help clean up this roster's problems.
