Luka Doncic Takes Accountability After Lakers' Loss to Spurs cover image

Luka Doncic speaks after the Los Angeles Lakers lose to San Antonio Spurs, taking accountability for the loss.

The Los Angeles Lakers saw its three game win streak snapped on Wednesday, losing 107-91.

Luka Doncic had a triple-double in the loss, but needed 26 shots to score 38 points, went 2-9 from three, 10-16 from the line, and had seven turnovers to partially negate his ten assists.

After the game, Luka took accountability for the loss.

"I think I still should have done way better than this. Missed free throws. Turnovers. I think we had some great looks, too. We couldn't knock them down," said Luka.

Short-Handed Lakers

Being on a back-to-back, the Lakers were short-handed in the game as LeBron James did not play. The Lakers are already without Austin Reaves, who is sidelined for at least the next few weeks with a grade 2 left gastrocnemius strain.

Not having two of their top three players puts more strain and attention on Doncic against the second-best team in the Western Conference.

Only two other Lakers scored in double figures, with Jake LaRavia contributing with 16 points on 13 shots and Jaxson Hayes providing ten points off the bench.

During Los Angeles' three-game win streak, Luka and LeBron carried the load for the team, scoring over 50% of their points.

Despite being down some major firepower, Luka did like the process for the Lakers in the game.

"It shows that we play hard. We were in the game, most of the game, away against San Antonio, which is a great team. The process was great. Since Christmas, outside of Detroit, I think we've been better. We're working on ourselves, and we're getting better every game," he said.

Cutting Down On Turnovers

Luka is one of the best passers in the league, averaging over seven assists in every season with the exception of his rookie year.

This year is no exception as he's averaging 8.8 assists, tied for the second-highest mark of his career.

However, as Luka mentioned in his post-game comments, turnovers were an issue on Wednesday, and they've been an issue all season.

Luka has always been a relatively high turnover player, leading the league in that category two seasons ago, but this year his numbers are more gaudy than ever. He's averaging a career high of 4.6 turnovers per game and 6.1 turnovers per 100 possessions. He's third in the league in total turnovers behind Deni Avdija and Cade Cunningham.

Over his last seven games, he's only had one contest with five or less turnovers.
