Luka Doncic and the Lakers are appealing the technical, which would result in a one-game suspension for Doncic if upheld.

Luka Doncic continued his tear through the NBA Saturday night in the Los Angeles Lakers' 105-104 win over the Orlando Magic to keep their win streak alive, but it did come with a price.

The Lakers superstar committed his 16th technical foul of the season, resulting in an automatic one-game suspension.

While Doncic has typically racked up technical fouls this season, and throughout his career, through his many passionate disagreements with referees in regard to certain calls, the reason behind this particular technical is a little more complicated.

Doncic's foul was actually one of two in a double technical foul call alongside Gogo Bitadze of the Magic. The Lakers have already issued an appeal to have Doncic's foul rescinded on the grounds that Bitadze was more involved than it originally seemed and that he should have received a warning prior to the technicals.

The reason that head coach JJ Redick feels so strongly about the appeal, other than the obvious effort to keep his star player, who's on an NBA-leading scoring tear, active, is some petty compelling evidence of what Bitadza said to Doncic.

Doncic's Account

According to Doncic, Bitzada said some heinous things to the Lakers' star in Serbian so that the referees couldn't understand it, including statements about his family.

"He [Bitadze] said at [the] free throw, he would f**k my whole family," Doncic said (via Khobi Price). "At some point I just can't stand it. I've got to stand up for myself."

Should the Lakers' appeal go through, Doncic will have the technical rescinded and he'll be able to play without any kind of suspension.

That's, of course, definitely the outcome that the Lakers want out of the situation, especially considering the heater he's been on. Sitting him for any. reason and risk the magic of his run going awry is definitely what the Lakers want to avoid.

Bitadze's Response

Bitadze reportedly denied making any remarks about Doncic's family when asked about the situation and then went on to give a starkly different account than Doncic's.

At first, Bitadze went on at length expressing how much he respected Doncic, then he added his side of the story, which contradicts Doncic.

Bitadze said that Doncic was the only who instigated the trash talk and that he was simply responding to the Lakers star. He even said that Doncic said something derogatory about about Bitadze's mother in Serbian, so Bitadze simply responded.

Whatever was said or was not said, Doncic's future status is in the NBA's hands now.
