The third Battle of LA tips off on Thursday, this time at Inuit Dome in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Clippers took their last matchup in a 103-88 victory on Dec. 20 that kickstarted the Clippers' season resurgence and was the first of an eventual six game win streak.
The Los Angeles Lakers ride back-to-back wins into Thursday's matchup as they look for revenge against their improbable defeat to the Clippers last game.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard (2) is defended by Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) and guard Austin Reaves (15) as he takes a shot in the second half at Crypto.com Arena. Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesIt's been an inconsistent stretch for the Lakers in the past month defined by alternating winning and losing streaks, but their last two wins against strong opponents in Denver and Toronto is a good sign for a return to continued success.
Austin Reaves (calf) remains OUT with a left calf sprain. Reaves hasn't played since Christmas Day due to the injury, but JJ Redick said that Reaves is "progressing well" and will be able to return to the lineup at some point during the Lakers' current road trip, per Dave McMenamin.
Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves (15) drives past Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac (40) in the second half at Crypto.com Arena. Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn ImagesReaves was playing at an All-Star level before his injury and is averaging 26.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game in 23 games this season. The Lakers have gone 7-6 since Reaves' last played game and a return to the court for their guard and Luka Dončić's backcourt partner would be a welcome sight for Lakers fans.
Adou Thiero (knee) remains OUT with a right MCL sprain. Thiero hasn't played since Dec. 30, but considering his initial four week timeline from the date of the injury, he could be nearing a return to the court sooner rather than later.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Lebron James (23) is defended by LA Clippers forward John Collins (20) in the second half at Intuit Dome. Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesKawhi Leonard (knee) is QUESTIONABLE to play against the Lakers. Leonard has been out for three straight games, but a chance to play against the crosstown rivals again is as good of an incentive as any for Leonard to make a return to the court.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt (left) and LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard reach for the ball in the second half at Intuit Dome. Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesDerrick Jones Jr. (knee) remains OUT with a right knee sprain. Jones Jr. has been out since Jan. 3 and is due to be re-evaluated six weeks from the date of the injury. Jones Jr. had played in just four games since returning from an initial MCL sprain that kept him sidelined since mind-November before he re-injured the same knee.
