Who might LeBron James leave the Los Angeles Lakers for in free agency?
LeBron James has a decision to make on his future, and while it seems like he is leaning towards returing for his 24th season, it is unclear which team he will play for.
James has spent the last eight seasons on the Los Angeles Lakers, signing with the team in 2018 after his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron has not only put down business roots in Los Angeles, his son Bronny James is also part of the team with the Lakers taking him in the second round of the draft two years ago.
Though LeBron returning to Los Angeles would seem to make sense, other teams will be interested in the services of "The King" should he decide to move on.
Golden State Warriors
If LeBron wants to stay on the West Coast, the Warriors would likely be his prefered destination. The Los Angeles Clippers could be in the mix thanks to Ty Lue being the coach as LeBron and Lue won a championship together in 2016 with Lue coaching Cleveland, but going from the Lakers to the Clippers doesn't quite seem like a LeBron move.
The Warriors may not seem like a LeBron move either given his rivalry with the team throughout his second run with the Cavaliers, but he is good friends with Draymond Green and has a lot of respect for Steph Curry and Steve Kerr.
The possibility of the two greatest players of their generation teaming up to try and win one last championship might be too good to pass up.
New York Knicks
Much of this will depend on if the Knicks win three more games this season, as it's unlikely they will make sweeping changes and a big addition coming off a championship, especially at the risk of losing key pieces.
But if the Knicks can't get past the San Antonio Spurs, maybe they feel LeBron is the piece they need, again assuming they don't have to make major changes to a strong core.
LeBron would relish the opportunity to play his final season in Madison Square Garden and the New York market.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The obvious answer as LeBron will forever be linked to Cleveland. It's the team that drafted, it's where he's spent 11 seasons across two stints, and it's where he brought a championship to after decades of professional disappointment.
After being swept in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cavs might be desperate enough to make the necessary changes to accomodate the greatest player in franchise history.
One final run with the Cavaliers will always be in the cards because it's the storybook ending to one of the most legendary careers in NBA history.
