NBA legend and analyst Charles Barkley thinks LeBron James should return to Cleveland.
This summer, one of the most anticipated moves of the 2026 NBA offseason will be where four-time NBA champion LeBron James decides to play next in his 24th NBA season.
James, 41, has been linked to multiple teams, and with recent reports of him having internal issues with the Los Angeles Lakers front office, LeBron playing for a different franchise next season is a real possibility.
LeBron has played for three different franchises in his career. He served two stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, four seasons with the Miami Heat, and eight seasons with the Lakers.

Barkley went on to mention how the Lakers would not get any better with James on their roster. If he were to stay in Los Angeles, it wouldn't matter because they would not be able to compete with the top teams, in his eyes.
"But if he goes back to the Cavs, where I believe he shouldn't have never left in the first place, the Cavs would probably be the favorite in the East. And that's to me is his only logical choice,” Barkley said.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had consistent success in recent seasons. They have made it to the second round of the playoffs the last three years, including an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2026.
Since trading for Donovan Mitchell, their team has elevated, competing for a championship year in and year out while maintaining regular-season success.
One knock on the Cavaliers is their experience. In the first years with Donovan Mitchell on the roster, much of their roster had little to no playoff experience. Since then, Cleveland has placed an emphasis on acquiring veteran talent like Max Strus and James Harden to upgrade the roster for the playoffs.
Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn ImagesThere is no veteran on the 2026 free agent market who has the championship pedigree of LeBron James. While LeBron is aging and on the tail end of his career, he can still provide a lot of production for the Cavaliers.
James' IQ and experience can elevate the Cavaliers' roster come playoff time, and he could mesh well with the current pieces. Cleveland has multiple shooters like Max Strus and Sam Merrill who can make threes at a high clip as long as they have an open look.
If LeBron were to come back to Cleveland, it would likely be the last team he plays for in his career, and this could be a scenario where he can make the most of it, as competing for a championship is a real possibility.
