Vitals: The Magic are continuing to navigate life without Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs, as they deal with a right ankle sprain and a right knee bone bruise, respectively. Orlando went 2-1 on its recent three-game road trip, but returned home on Sunday only to lose to the Boston Celtics, 108-97, to begin a back-to-back at the Kia Center before embarking on a four-game West Coast road trip.
Without Banchero and Suggs, additional responsibility has been placed on the shoulders of Desmond Bane and Franz Wagner. Through the first five games of his second season in Orlando, Bane is averaging 17.2 points and has struggled to shoot efficiently, hitting just 33.8% of his field goal attempts.
Wagner is averaging 20.8 points over the same span, but has also struggled to shoot the basketball, particularly from the 3-point line. Over five games, Wagner has shot just 18.5% from the perimeter.
When Wagner and Bane have been efficient, the Magic have proved they can win games, but otherwise, it has been a struggle. Both will need to be on their A-game moving forward.
On the other hand, the Wizards come to Orlando with a 3-3 record after a 95-79 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. So far, Washington looks like a team ready to emerge from lottery-bound perpetuity, and its veterans have been stepping up.
Anthony Davis has been the team's leading scorer over its first six games, averaging 22.3 points. Trae Young leads the team in assists with 10.2 per game, and rookie AJ Dybantsa has averaged 18 points through his first two NBA games.
Last Meeting: The most recent meeting between Orlando and the Wizards came on March 12 of last season, when Orlando defeated Washington at home in overtime, 136-131. The win gave the Magic the season series by a 3-1 advantage. Suggs led them with 28 points in the victory.

Quotable: After the Magic’s 121-114 Emirates NBA Cup Win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday, Wagner had this to say about his team’s tenacity and competitive spirit: "I talked about that we have evidence of how tough we are and the grit that the group has, and obviously we didn't show it every game so far in the season, and when we talked about that coming into the game, I think it's really good to see that. We showed that today, and that stuff's got to become a habit, and I think if it does, I think we'll be a really good team."
