On Jamal Cain receiving a standard contract and what he's shown since joining the team:
"What we've seen from him is pure appreciation for getting to play this game. A young man that has worked his tail off for years in this league to try to make it to this level. He comes in with a sense of joy, a work ethic, a professionalism every single day. What we ask our guys to do night in and night out. We go back to that was the thought of the day: you get to do this. You don't have to—you get to. So that was so much joy for him. Our guys celebrated him in the video room which I think is such a great thing for him and for us as a group."
On how moments like this provide perspective in an 82-game season:
"Other moments like that in an 82-game season at game 60—it's all perspective. The humdrum of the season. Our guys really get to feel why we do it. You do it to achieve, to get to this level, to play at the highest level, and then you're doing it with your brothers night in and night out. I think that brings it all back into the right perspective that we need to have playing this game of basketball."
On what Jamal Cain has provided in the rotation recently:
"Defensively first—he comes in, he's guarded multiple players. Offensively, he's not afraid to step in and take big shots. You saw in the Miami game, he comes in, knocks down a transition three, gets the back door cut. And then you see the guys celebrating him and that's how you know that they appreciate how hard he's worked and the things that he's done in order to get to this point and crack the rotation consistently."
On reminding players to keep the ball moving when the game slows down:
"Some of it is calling the play out the right way to make sure that we're calling movement sets. But the other piece is we go through shootaround with it today to get that reminder of what we're trying to accomplish when that ball moves side to side. We're a pretty dang good basketball team when we touch the paint. So just those reminders of being able to see it on film, call the plays the right way that are going to cause that, but also knowing that when we do it the right way, we're pretty good."
On building urgency to end the current losing streak before it grows:
"It's self-explanatory in that way. You understand that you're playing a very good basketball team coming out tonight. And you've got to come out with a sense of urgency. We always talk about one game at a time and taking care of home. You're not ending a streak until you get one. That's how you got to do it. You got to get the one."
On Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane as a potential foundational duo for the Magic's future, building toward Finals contention:
"We have a great core group of guys. Right now, Dez and Paolo, the way they're playing basketball, playing off of each other the right way, and now you add to that pot, you have Franz, you have Jalen, you have a great core group of guys that are establishing themselves throughout the league and knowing how to play the right way, and they feed and really thrive off each other. As we continue to move forward and we get healthy, we have a great young core that can continue to get the job done."
On stopping Luka Dončić:
"There's obviously not really a stopping him. There's hoping to slow him down. He's gone 39, 40 plus, 60. He's scoring the ball at a high clip, but he's also sharing it, moving it, getting to the free throw line, playing very good basketball. The one thing with him, you've just got to make him see different coverages cuz he's seen everything. You got to mix the bodies that guard him. You got to try to take him away early, then you got to make him work on the other end just as well."
On Croatian players historically and their impact on the game:
"You just named some of the great names that have played from there. What it is is that they know how to play the game. They're tough as nails. They study the game, they work the game, they know how to pass, they know how to shoot. Those guys really understand the game of basketball, and they bring a different element to the game. There's a high level of IQ, toughness, and team basketball when you talk about Croatian players."
