ORLANDO — After their win streak came to an end with a 124-112 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, the Orlando Magic return home to host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday.
The defending NBA Champion Thunder are a league-best 53-15 this season, and Mosley knows the type of discipline it will take to defeat them and the margin of error for his team.
“It's super thin,” Mosley said. “You're playing the champs; they're that for a reason. They do a great job of turning you over, execute offensively; all the little things in this game matter a ton.”
One day after Hawks guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker dropped a career-high 41 points, the Magic will have to deal with his cousin, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
“Yeah, he's got it,” Mosley said. "I mean, you know, he's in the MVP race, you know, leading it for a reason, and I think it's just because he gets to his spots on the floor; they play through him, he's selfless, he puts his guys in position to be successful. You know, with him, you know, you look at the numbers in wins and losses and they're not far off.
“You know, seven assists in wins, five in losses, 31 in points and wins, 30 in losses, so it's not much of a big difference with him. So he's going to do what he does on a nightly basis, and so you just got to just keep mixing it up as much as possible, be as physical as you can without falling, which is tough to do against him, but he's got to see a crowd, he's got to see bodies.”
Mosley also provided injury updates on Franz Wagner and Anthony Black.
“Franz has been able to get on the floor, a little light contact, but that's about where he is right now,” Mosley said.
However, Black is not as close to returning.
“Yeah, he hasn't touched the floor really at all. You know, just light movements within the weight room.”
Tuesday will mark Wagner’s 15th-straight missed game, and it will be Black’s sixth-straight.
The Magic are playing their second back-to-back in the span of a week, but Mosley is not making excuses.
“Yeah, at the end of the day, this is the schedule the league has put out,” Mosley said. “You know, I talk to friends across the league, you know, counterparts that are dealing with the same thing. So, no excuses.
“You have to find a way. You find a way every single night to get the job done. And then that's what this group has done and will do. You know, the schedule is not always fun or easy, but anything worth having is not going to be easy. So, we find a way to get it done.”
