Desmond Bane's playmaking and improved shooting fuel the Magic's winning streak. Discover how this summer acquisition is driving Orlando's ascent.

The Orlando Magic have won six of their last eight games, showing signs of turning the corner toward contender status. Despite a narrow 105-98 victory over the 1-11 Brooklyn Nets, the team continues to improve. A key factor in their recent success is summer acquisition Desmond Bane, who has gained confidence and improved his three-point shooting. His highlight this season was a buzzer-beating fadeaway three against the Portland Trailblazers. Bane’s consistent 30-plus minutes and veteran presence have been praised by coach Jamahl Mosley as vital to the Magic’s growth.

“It is an advantage,” Mosley said about Bane. “Understanding who he is, he’s a guy that has been making plays for a long time. He’s played point. He played point in college. He did it when Ja [Morant] was out in Memphis. He’s able to make plays down the stretch. That’s what he’s comfortable doing, that’s what he’s capable of doing, and our guys trust him to know he’s going to make the right play.”

Desmond Bane’s three-point shooting percentage is improving after a slow start to the season. He’s grown more comfortable creating his own shots and has become a key playmaker, especially with Paolo Banchero potentially missing extra time.

“Dez gets downhill really well,” guard Anthony Black said. “He’s so fast getting past his man that it just makes it easy for the other dudes to play off of him. He’s averaging a lot of assists, getting into the paint, making plays. You add that on top of his scoring ability and it’s really helping our offense out for sure.”

Despite his recent improvement and praise from teammates, Bane remains focused on doing whatever it takes to help the team win.

“We’ve known that we can do it,” Bane noted. “We've got to be consistent with it night after night. Obviously, having Jalen Suggs back in the lineup helps, but down the board you look at a guy like Jonathan Isaac and what he’s been able to bring coming off the bench, Anthony Black’s point-of-attack, Goga, Wendell, Paolo’s rim protection been great, Franz does what he does. We got a lot of guys that take pride on that end of the floor.”
