Inside Moe Wagner's and Wendell Carter Jr's Comments Ahead of Cavaliers cover image

Wagner and Carter Jr. discuss playoff intensity, defensive adjustments, and overcoming offensive frustrations ahead of a crucial Cavaliers rematch.

 Moe Wager:

On learning from the first game against Cleveland and adjustments for tonight's rematch:

"It's always good to play a team twice in a short span because it kind of gives a playoff feel, can make some adjustments, can see how you look against a team in case you play them in the playoffs. Yeah, obviously going through adjustments, trying to improve little things and then kind of have a better energy and go get this one."

On what he liked defensively from the Orlando game and wants to see more of tonight:

"Sometimes process over the result, you got to keep that in mind. Some guys made some shots that you got to live with making some shots. I think Donovan Mitchell played an exceptional game, especially in the second half, made some layups that you just have to live with and kind of be a little more physical, be a little more energetic and try to take some of that stuff away. It's a momentum game too, right? Create some momentum on the road. That's very important. So yeah, I'm looking forward to doing that tonight."

On how he's feeling a few games back from injury:

"I'm feeling better. I'm still finding my offensive groove, my rhythm, but I'm really enjoying being back in my normal routine. My knee is getting used to the performance and all that stuff and playing and all the routine and all that stuff. So yeah, even though we lost the last couple games, I can't stop smiling because it's been so long, you know, and I'm really enjoying being back with the group and being back playing."

Wendell Carter Jr.:

On what they learned from the first game against Cleveland and adjustments for tonight's rematch:

"Being consistent. I think our first half we did a really good job defensively on their superstar players. Offensively we're knocking out shots, getting easy looks one another and just staying consistent through all 48. That's something that we have yet to put together in a couple games now. So that's all it's attention to detail and it's an effort thing and that's something that us 15 guys, we just got to figure it out together and then go out there and do it."

On not letting missed shots affect the team mentally:

"It's hard. It's hard to do. We're all competitors. We understand the work that we've put in over the summer throughout this season. So it gets a little frustrating, but I think what we have to do a better job of is just honing in that frustration onto the defensive end. Understanding that, okay, my shot ain't fall. I'm going to come out here and get a stop. I think that's something that we just it's human nature to get frustrated, including myself. But just getting out of that funk and then just putting the team in front of yourself. I think that's the biggest thing."

On the quality of looks the team got in the last game against Cleveland:

"Even from going back to the Charlotte game even, I feel like we've gotten some really good looks. I think we can get Dez a couple more cleaner looks in terms of shooting the three-point shot. But other than that, we just got to make shots. A lot of people say it's a make or miss league and at the end of the day, like we can play the best of defense, but we're not making no shots. It's going to be tough to win the game."
