The Orlando Magic have earned a couple of quality wins this season, but their struggles have been far more prevalent.
The Orlando Magic will kick off a four-game West Coast road trip against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday. Orlando, now 2-5, have failed to get a win at home but are 2-1 in away games.
Along with the adversity created by injuries to key players such as Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs, the Magic are also trying to put together complete efforts on the basketball court that translate to victories on a more consistent basis.
This team has a lot to overcome, and the good news is that the season is still young. However, questions remain, and I posed many of them on the latest episode of the Full Court Magic Podcast. Here is some of what I had to say:
"The Orlando Magic have had a more difficult start to the season than what any of us were probably anticipating. Uh, after Monday night's loss to the Washington Wizards, the Magic are now 0-4 at home. Let that sink in. This team has not won a game yet in the 2026-27 NBA season at home.
They are 2-5 overall. And what's weird is their two wins were quality wins: against the New York Knicks, the defending NBA champion New York Knicks, and the Toronto Raptors in an Emirates NBA Cup game to kick off that Cup schedule, a game that happened two days after the Magic were blown out by 30 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. So this has just been a weird start to the season so far.
The team is dealing with injuries to key players like Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs. So no surprise that this has caused more of an uphill battle, but I wonder what this team will look like even when those two guys come back, and if they will be able to overcome the inherent flaws that they are dealing with. We're going to get into all of that here soon enough.
But once again, 0-4 at home. Is it time to worry about this Magic team not being able to win in the Kia Center, and why are they better on the road in some ways? I mean, it's really interesting, you know, I mean that over the weekend or, you know, Sunday into Monday, the Magic played a back-to-back against the Celtics, and the Wizards lost both those games. And a key trend again was just not being able to shoot and not being able to get stops. I mean, in the game against the Celtics, Franz Wagner went 5-for-20."
