Jamahl Mosley Credits Second Half Energy Boost in Win Over Milwaukee Bucks cover image

Mosley highlights the team's defensive lockdown and offensive surge after halftime, crediting energy and execution for their victory.

On the defensive effort in the second half, particularly quarters three and four:

"I thought we just took on the challenge at halftime. Our coaches did a great job of challenging these guys. We were getting stops, getting steals, but we weren't converting and I think that third quarter is what it should look like. We were able to get out and get some easy early baskets, weren't coming back to the basketball, the throw ahead, it was all there. But it started with our defense. Holding them to 20 points in that third quarter was big for us."

On Franz Wagner's performance tonight:

"He looked comfortable out there. Obviously his wind is going to take some time, but his ability to get downhill, to playmake, to create for his teammates. I thought he did a great job being aggressive and not letting things get to him."

On the team's mentality to stay in the game defensively despite poor shooting in the first half and let defense lead to offense:

"You have to. That ball's not going in the hole, you got to find a way. Our ability to contain the basketball, rely on our defense to get out and get some early baskets to watch the ball go through the hoop was big for us because it wasn't falling in that first half. But you got to continue to trust the work that we've put in. Continue to trust that process, but again our guys made sure that we relied on that defense to set the tone for this game."

On whether the defense is regaining its identity after holding opponents under 100 points in recent games:

"It's getting there. It's definitely getting there. It's not necessarily the dark side like the Seattle Seahawks defense, but we're getting there."

On Paolo Banchero's hand injury after getting hit by the ball:

"I do not know. We'll go back and talk to him and see what happened, but I'm not sure. I think that it was a rocket that he got right straight to his hand, but there's nothing there as of right now that I know of."

On Paolo Banchero's performance when not shooting well early, sticking with it, and what to look for from him:

"He stays with the process. He's looking for finding teammates, making the right pass. We put him in the pick and roll with a couple of the smalls. They showed out. He's making the right play as teams continue to show on him. Getting his teammates involved, getting downhill. Couple times he got to the basket, not necessarily getting that call, but again he stays aggressive, stays attacking the rim, and I love that for him and for us because he continues to put so much pressure on the defense when he gets downhill."

On Jalen Suggs' 10 assists and helping the team convert in transition after turnovers:

"You talk about what we're doing. A couple of times we could have been better. We got a steal, got out in transition, two-on-one situation. We got to make the right play in that scenario. Got to run with the right spacing. Got to get downhill, make the defense actually have to commit, and then you get those open looks again. But it's part of film watch. We'll walk through it tomorrow to understand exactly what we need to do when we find ourselves in those scenarios again."

On the energy and relief with Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner back, even with minutes restrictions:

"I love their energy. I really do love the way that they played. Just being able to be back on the floor together. Again, it's going to take a moment and time as we continue to get guys in and out of the lineup with finding the minutes restrictions and make sure that guys when they step on the court, they're ready to go. But again with the minutes restriction, it becomes a little tricky. But these guys understand that and they know it's going to take some time and we got another one to do on Wednesday."

On playing Paolo Banchero at the five in the fourth quarter with multiple ball handlers:

"In the timeout I thought about you. I was like, 'Let me see if I can do exactly what he said pregame to make sure that we get Paolo at the five.' But no, it was the right thing to do because they actually went small ball and we had been switching anyway. So at the end of the day, like his ability to go against a matchup, them overhelping, he gets the three-point shot again. But we have so many ball handlers and multiple guys that can make plays. That's the beauty of what we have with our team."

On winning three games in a row for the first time in a while and its impact on mentality heading into the All-Star break:

"I think it says a lot for this group. Three in a row is good for us. And we talked about taking care of home, but we also talk about one game at a time. And so our ability just to keep moving it one game at a time no matter what and as we continue to string them together. That's a good thing for this group to keep building confidence going into the break."
