Orlando's surprise sophomore is lighting it up. Discover how Tristan da Silva's all-around game has become a vital spark for the Magic.

The Orlando Magic have been nothing short of disappointing to begin the season. Through eight games, a 3-5 record would’ve surprised many considering the hype surrounding their strong offseason. New additions like Desmond Bane, Tyus Jones, and Jalen Suggs are still finding their rhythm, while Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are once again leading the scoring production during this early-season skid.

It hasn’t been all disappointing for the Magic, as several depth players have stepped up and proven their value early in the season. One standout is second-year forward Tristan da Silva, who has earned consistent minutes thanks to his all-around improvement.

Da Silva has elevated nearly every aspect of his game, including a five-point boost in offensive production from last season. Following an impressive EuroBasket showing, many anticipated growth, but he’s quickly become a key contributor for Orlando’s rotation.

Despite having a big game, da Silva credits his recent production to his teammates.

“Just playing,” da Silva said. “I kind of was lucky enough to get some good shots, open ones at the beginning of the game and that kind of got me in the flow. But ultimately we got to find a way to find our groove as a team from beyond the arc and defensively as well."

Now averaging 11.9 points on 41.7 percent shooting from three-point range, da Silva has quietly become one of Orlando’s most reliable offensive options. Head coach Jamahl Mosley noted his growth has been encouraging to witness as the young forward continues to find his rhythm early in the season.

“He played with confidence,” Mosley said following his 20-point performance. “Stepped into his shot. Guys were looking for him, finding him. I thought that was great, his level of aggression. I thought that was very good for his growth tonight.”

Da Silva remains focused on team growth, emphasizing that continued offensive improvement starts with taking care of the ball and finding consistency.

“There's been multiple breakdowns,” da Silva added. “But obviously, I feel like it also started with our offense taking care of the ball. That was one of the main focuses for us on their scouting report was taking away their transition points and they got a good amount of fast break points.”
