Orlando Magic Guard Jevon Carter Sparks Blowout Win, Credits Team-First Mindset cover image

Carter ignites a record-setting offensive explosion with his dynamic play, proving team-first basketball fuels dominant victories.

The Orlando Magic’s newest addition following the trade deadline and All-Star break, guard Jevon Carter, had a breakout performance with 14 points, three rebounds and four assists in a 131–94 win over the Sacramento Kings. Carter was acquired after the deadline in a deal that sent Tyus Jones out. After the victory, Carter said he was excited to be back on the court, having fun and, most importantly, helping the team win in any way he can.

On what started clicking offensively in the second quarter:

"It really was our defense, playing off our defense, just picking up the pace, playing faster, playing together. That's really what changed it."

On the franchise-record 27 three-pointers made and the looks generated:

"Just getting downhill, being unselfish, getting off of it, being aggressive. Just taking the shots that was there, not really thinking about it, passing them up, and just playing together."

On the satisfaction of seeing his hard work pay off and playing with the new team:

"It was fun. I pride myself on hard work. Hard work always pays off. That's a motto I live by. It was definitely a lot of fun being out there with the guys, really getting back into the swing of things."

On the mindset going into the second quarter after being down 28-18 in the first:

"Just not really paying attention to the score. Not feeling like we need to get it all back in one possession. Playing iso, being selfish, just continue to trust each other, play off each other, feed off each other, and just let our defense feed into our offense and just flow like that."

On the main key to generating so many three-point looks:

"Yeah, just kind of like I said earlier, just playing together, getting downhill, being unselfish, getting off of it, and just being aggressive, taking your shots when they're there."

On discussions about finishing the season strong with 28 games left:

"Yeah. 28 games left now. Just taking every game one by one, treating them like mini playoff series."
