The veteran center prioritizes family and winning as he reunites with his former franchise, eyeing a deep playoff run and a mentorship role under coach Sean Sweeney.
On His Decision-Making Process and Rejoining the Franchise:
"Be at that stage where I am in my career was something it was important for me that it's, you know, a team that has a chance to win, and then also a place that would be good for my family, and so, you know, when the opportunity for Orlando came up, I didn't think about it too much. Obviously, everybody knows my ties to Orlando... the team is good, have a chance to win, and then for my family, you know, we live there... when I put it all on paper, it was pretty easy decision for me to come back, and I'm happy I get the chance to go back to the franchise where I spend the most years."
On the Lasting Impact and Standout Memories of His Initial Tenure:
"There were many, obviously. You know, came there very young. I left, you know, as a grown man with two kids, so you know, a lot happened... mainly the memories would be, you know... us making the playoffs after a couple tough couple years, you know, me making an all-star game twice. I didn't know, most importantly for me, just all the people I've worked with, you know, from my teammates to the staff to all the people that work for the Magic... a lot of them reached out to me when I came back."
On the Swift Free Agency Process and Defining His Veteran Roster Role:
"The exact details, I don't know if who reached out to who, honestly, but no, I think the Magic did know that... there was always when there would be another opportunity for me to be a free agent that they knew I would have liked to come back eventually... My agent called me, he said they were... interested in signing me, you know. To me, it was just kind of figuring out what my role would be, you know, how they saw me, and you know, once we figured that part out, the rest was pretty easy."
On His Relationship with Head Coach Sean Sweeney and Parallelisms to Steve Clifford:
"I didn't know him before. I've heard a lot of great things about him... We had a couple conversations, just know him expecting me to obviously to be a good veteran for the team, be a good vocal leader, help the younger guys out... He's, you know, he's pretty direct, which I like in some ways. He reminds me of Coach Clifford, who I've had a great relationship with, and played some of my best basketball under... His first opportunity as a head coach, but he's had a lot of great success... and obviously his last position before he came to the Magic with the Spurs, they went to the finals."
On Breaking the First-Round Ceiling with This Up-and-Coming Roster:
"It would mean a lot. It is also one of the reasons I came back. I think this team has a chance to take the next step and go deep in the playoffs... I like our chances. I think we have a lot of good players on this team. I think they've built a lot of good experience past couple seasons, even though you know it was first round exits, but still they played a lot of meaningful games... I've never gotten a chance to go past first round with the Magic, and if we're able to do that together, it'd be amazing."
On Missing the Orlando Community and Transitioning Back to the Area:
"Missed it a lot. I mean, everybody knows it was a very special place for me... Chicago was great to me. I had a great five years there... but I think just Orlando, because of just the period that was there, from coming at 21 years old, even nine years later... So definitely missed it, definitely missed the warm weather as well... Some, it was always something that was in the back of my mind, that you know, it would be nice if, if there was ever a right time to do it again, and do it right."
On the Physical and Cultural Identity of the Current Core Players:
"They've showed it made the playoffs, even last couple years, but this year had a big lead. I think you know, obviously losing Franz, I think, hurt them a lot, but lost to a very good Detroit team. We just see the players that we have, you know, see, Paulo, Franz, Desmond, Anthony Black, Jalen Suggs, Wendell, Goga, myself now... Just a lot of good players, guys that have good character, that want to win... very physical team, you know."
On Calibrating His Postseason Priorities Late in His Professional Arc:
"Since I didn't really have the chance to experience high team success, as I've gotten older, it's become even more important to me. I really want to get a chance to try to do it, and hopefully we do achieve that... I never had a really a chance to be on a really, really good team to win it all. Obviously, now in Boston, I think we had a good team, we just didn't put it together to make that run that we thought we could, but just something that really motivates me that want to really experience before you know I finished my career."
On Retiring Internationally and Mentally Capping Off His NBA Journey:
"I haven't really thought about it much. Hopefully, you know, if things work out well, and you know the team plays well, I play well, and you know, I can stay in Orlando for a few years, that'd be great... if I can stay there and we can have some good success together, that obviously that'd be a great way for me to end it, but it's not something that's too much on my mind yet... I think I can still play at a high level, you know. I think it'll be a different role for me, you know, adjusting from going to starter and playing major minutes to probably playing less minutes and coming off the bench, and that's something that I went through in Boston."
On Locker Room Familiarity with Jonathan Isaac and Jevon Carter:
"In some ways, obviously, it'll be very new... Obviously, I know Jay, I know Jevon, who I've played with in Chicago for a couple of seasons. So, yeah, I think you know, I think it'd be a little easier than, for example, going to Boston, because I know the city, I know the organization, I've been there for a long time."
On the Overwhelmingly Positive Reactions from Family and the Fan Base:
"Almost everybody that's reached out to me, it was just, it was like, 'you get to go home, that's amazing.' I think people just knew how much Orlando meant to me and how much it means to me... my wife and kids, obviously, as well, very happy... lots, a lot of fans as well reached out on Twitter, X, whatever it's called now, and so it was great to see you, always appreciate that."
With Vučević acknowledging that his game isn't reliant on athleticism, his high IQ and floor spacing should look seamless coming off the bench. How do you see Coach Sweeney balancing the frontcourt minutes between Vooch, Wendell Carter Jr., and Goga Bitadze as they attempt to break that first-round barrier?
