The Orlando Magic returned to the win column with a nail-biting 128–127 victory over the Utah Jazz. In the closing moments, Desmond Bane delivered the game-winning buzzer-beater, but his heroics were not the only reason the Magic were in position to steal the win.
Rookie Noah Penda made a significant impact while continuing his push for increased playing time, finishing with an impressive 13 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. His all-around effort provided key energy and production on both ends of the floor.
Following the game, head coach Jamahl Mosley met with the media and spoke about Penda’s major impact in the win, highlighting the rookie’s presence and growth in a high-pressure moment.
"Just winner. He found so many plays that he was involved in. Multiple contests on three-point shooters, protecting the basket, big-time defensive rebounds, big-time offensive rebounds, just those little winning plays,” Mosley said. “You got to give him so much credit because he just continues to stay ready no matter what's going on. He continues to work on his craft, and that's what we need from guys like that that are not always in rotation."
The rookie understands he may not be the most naturally gifted player on the floor, which is why he relies on effort to make his impact. Through relentless hustle, defensive plays, and battling for loose balls, he gave the Magic a crucial edge in the win.
"Just staying ready,” Penda said. “Trust the work I put in every day. Like I said multiple times and after like as a rookie, I've talked days about it. It's just about getting extra possession for your team, doing the dirty work, and do whatever it takes to get the win."
"I mean, it's just it comes naturally,” Penda added. “I don't take like really any pride. It's just something I do and it's good to have recognition for that."
