The Orlando Magic opened the 2026 season below expectations. At the All-Star break, they sit at 28-25, good for first in the Southeast Division but far short of the championship standard set before the season. On the positive side, the Magic often surge in the second half under coach Jamahl Mosley, and improving health could fuel a strong playoff push.
“"I'm extremely hopeful,” Mosley said before heading into the All-Star break. “I believe this team can do great things and we will do great things. Finding that rhythm within the team as we have a couple practices after the break, but it's going to come down to rest. Having these guys for basically this is the second game out of 400 and something that they've those three have been together. So it's going to take a little bit of time and obviously the back end is going to happen quick. So it's got to be in practices. It's got to be in film. It's got to be our communication. It's got to be us working together to make sure that we understand exactly what's needed on the back end."
Bleacher Report, however, does not expect the Magic to reach their original 51-win projection. It projects Orlando to finish with 45 wins, citing low efficiency and inconsistent play across the roster.
“There are several teams that rate as more disappointing than the Orlando Magic,” The article wrote. “But it's not great that they're in the conversation. Far from making the superstar leap many expected, Paolo Banchero is regressing. He's on pace to post his lowest scoring average and effective field-goal percentage since his rookie year and is now facing questions about his fitness as the key piece of a respectable NBA offense.”
“Franz Wagner has missed close to half the season,” the article added. “Jalen Suggs will struggle to reach 60 games and Desmond Bane's relative durability has come with a mere 35.7 percent hit rate on threes. Overall, the Magic are again on track to post an offensive rating in the bottom 10 (that'll make it 10 straight years), and their defense, once a calling card, is now in the middle of the pack.”
