The Orlando Magic have just one home game remaining in the regular season, and Jalen Suggs took the time on Monday night to deliver an honest message to the fans.
ORLANDO — The Orlando Magic were able to win their third-straight game on Monday by defeating the Detroit Pistons, 123-107. A key catalyst in the win was Jalen Suggs.
After Monday’s win, Orlando has just one home game remaining in the regular season. Ahead of that game, which will be against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, Suggs provided a message to the fanbase.
“It's definitely flown by, for sure,” Suggs said regarding the season. “I'm not going to lie. Man, the city of Orlando knows how I feel about them, not only just from the fan perspective but just from the human side of things. Everybody that I've got to meet here has been amazing.”
“All I would ask is, I know it's been frustrating, I know it's been a tough year, on all of y'all,” Suggs added as he looked directly into the camera. “We truly need you guys down the stretch, honestly. I promise we're working, none of us in here have given up, waved any white flag, but we really need the energy and effort from y'all when we come in this building and when we're about to re-enter this building in a post-season setting like you talked about.”
The Magic hold a 24-15 record inside the Kia Center heading into Wednesday’s game as opposed to an 18-19 record on the road. They are the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference ahead of Tuesday’s slate of games and possess an identical record (43-36) with the eighth-seeded Charlotte Hornets and the No. 7 Philadelphia 76ers.
While the Magic have experienced some victorious moments on their home court this season, there have been plenty of low points that have raised vocal protests from the fans through choruses of boos and chants for coach Jamahl Mosley to be fired.
“So, like I said, they're always so important to our runs, you know when they're present with us,” he said. “We ain't made it easy on them, for sure, I just need y'all to stick with us, man, I promise we got y'all. I promise.
“I promise.”
Suggs also touched on his night as a facilitator after he commanded the floor with a career-high 12 assists along with 12 points.
“I said it from the beginning of the year, it's so ideal, you know, having guys who can go get it anywhere in transition, in half court, knock down shots and put it on the ground. For me, I just got to put them in positions, you know, to be successful. So that's where a lot of my mindset comes.
“But for me, it was less of the assists today,” Suggs added. “I'm always hunting that, but it was the turnovers that I was trying to pay attention to and really try to limit. I think that's been the only thing that's kind of been frustrating lately.”
Over his last two games, Suggs has racked up 20 assists while only allowing two turnovers.
