Mosley dissects the Magic's historic 52-point defeat, revealing breakdowns in preparation, physicality, and urgency against a relentless opponent.
On how he explains the 52-point loss tonight:
"I got to do a better job preparing them for what they were going to see tonight. We talked a little bit about it, but probably not enough. I've got to have them prepared for the physicality of the game, prepared for how much they were going to grab, hold, and get us off our spots. That's on me. I got to do a better job there with this group to make sure they're prepared in the right way, knowing exactly the sense of urgency that Toronto was going to play with, having guys out, the sense of urgency that they were going to play with, knowing the positioning that we were in for playoff positioning. So that's I've got to do a better job for this group there."
On the main reasons for all the turnovers:
"They do a great job of getting you off your spot, their sense of urgency, their physicality, them hitting and moving you off your positioning. That was a big portion of it—getting to our spots earlier, knowing exactly how they were going to play. We just got to regroup, bounce back from this one and find a way to get a game against Phoenix."
On how the 31-0 run happened and why it broke down:
"I called three timeouts in that moment, trying to stop that bleeding. Again, our ability to come out with that sense of urgency and attention to detail of knowing exactly what they were doing. Put in press break to make sure that we got the ball over. But just our ability to combat what they were doing. Again, that's something we'll go back and look at the film and get into practice and make sure that we understand exactly what we need to do in situations playing a physical aggressive team like this."
On why the team lacked a sense of urgency:
"I tell you exactly what it is. I got to make sure I do a better job for this group to get them and put them in the position to know exactly what they're going to face on a night-to-night basis, especially with the last nine games—now eight games—coming down the stretch. That's us as a group. We will go look at it. We'll talk about it. We'll make sure we practice it and make sure we get the job done knowing you're going to see similar games coming down the stretch."
On anything he can pinpoint about the defense not being at the level he wants:
"A lot of times when you're turning the ball over and they're getting out in transition, that's where it starts. Again, our sense of urgency to get back after a missed shot or a turnover. They were out to the races early and so they had 26 fast break points early on, basically at halftime. So our ability to, one, take care of the basketball and then sprint back with a sense of urgency has to be there for 48, knowing that this is the type of team that we were going to play tonight."
On whether his message is still getting through to the team after such a bad loss:
"Yes. Yes. You get hit in the mouth by 56 points. You understand exactly what you need to do and you know you're not as bad as you think you are in your losses and you're not as great as you think you are in your wins. So somewhere in between, we've got to make sure that we get on the right mentality coming down to these last eight games."
