Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero has been a key component of his team's recent winning streak.
The Orlando Magic are on a four-game win streak, and two of those games have been blowout victories. When identifying what has made Orlando successful, a strong look must be given to the recent play of Paolo Banchero.
Over his last seven games, Banchero is averaging 27 points. He has been praised by coach Jamahl Mosley for being more aggressive — both offensively and defensively.
After cruising past the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, Banchero discussed several topics with the NBA on Prime crew, starting with where he likes to be on the floor.
“I mean, in that paint, around that rim, you know? I think using my size, my ability, get clean looks around the rim, just working my way inside out,” Banchero said. “I think the jumper gets going when my inside is going. So, trying to get early looks in the paint, easy dunks, layups, finishes, and then that'll open up everything else for me."
At 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, Banchero has the stature physically impose his will on larger opponents or in situations that offer a mismatch.
“That's something that, you know, I'm always trying to look for if I got a mismatch out in transition or on the block, you know, trying to get that seal and get a finish,” Banchero told the crew. “It's something that I can try and look for more. And as a team, we can try to hunt that more.”
At the time of the interview, Banchero and the Magic had 20 games remaining in their season, and the former stressed the importance of where the team is with the playoffs approaching.
“Every game is a playoff level game for us at this point in the season. You know, we're in a tight race here in the East. So, you know, we got to wake up and be ready to play each and every night. And, you know, we got some important games coming up. We got another one against Milwaukee tomorrow.”
The Magic ended up cruising by the Milwaukee Bucks, 130-91.
“You know, we're going to see Charlotte, Miami, Atlanta,” he added. “And, you know, so we just got to be ready to play every night and, you know, try to get in as best position as we can headed into the playoff. So, it's an exciting time of the year. And, you know, I know guys are ready. So, you know, I am looking at the standings every day for sure.”
The Magic have not had the luxury of health this season, but Banchero believes that when they are playing at full strength, they are one of the best.
“I think at full strength, you know, we're one of the best teams in the league and one of the best in the East.”
