The Orlando Magic lost an ugly game to the Indiana Pacers, and Tristan da Silva got honest afterward.
The Orlando Magic fell to the Indiana Pacers on Monday, 128-126 to extend a brutal losing streak to five games. Afterward, Tristan da Silva provided his thoughts.
“I feel like there's probably a lot of things that we could have controlled throughout the game,” da Silva said. “Whether that's second chance points, whether that's points in the paint, points in transition. Yeah, I mean, it just wasn't enough. I mean, we kind of scratched back late in the game there.
“But I think if you've got playoff aspirations, those are kind of the games that you can't really drop.”
Da Silva added 21 points on 9-16 shooting in the loss as he started in place of the injured Franz Wagner once again. The Magic trailed by as many as 12 points late in the fourth quarter before mounting a comeback that ultimately fell short. Now, Orlando is 38-33 and eighth in the Eastern Conference with only 11 games remaining.
Now, the Magic will face the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road for the second night of a back-to-back, and da Silva knows Orlando cannot dwell on its loss to Indiana.
“Yeah, I mean, got to get the next one,” da Silva said. “You know, that's kind of all we can focus on right now and learn from this. You know, kind of regroup. We got another one tomorrow that's going to be tough.
“Not at home against a team that's also playing well and is also in that kind of range that we're in. So, that's going to be a big game.”
The Magic defeated the Cavaliers at home on March 11 as part of their seven-game winning streak, and this will be the final meeting of the regular season between the two.
When it came to the loss to the Pacers, da Silva reiterated letting things in Orlando’s control slip.
“I mean, again, there's a lot of controllables that we've kind of let slack a little bit, I think, right from the get-go. And, you know, with a team like Indiana, that's always going to play their brand of basketball, which is super fast and which is kind of attacking you at all times, no matter what, no matter the score.”
At this critical juncture of the season, da Silva emphasized the need for consistent urgency and motivation.
“I feel like this is especially the time of year where you should be the most motivated and you should be, you know, fighting every single possession and every single, you know, play that you have out there should be well thought out and just, you know, in the flow of the game,” he said.
So, I wouldn't see why we wouldn't be motivated. But, once again, it’s got to show.”
