The Orlando Magic have undergone a dramatic turnaround since the All-Star break and now appear to be one of the hottest teams in the NBA. At 37-28 and still atop the Southeast Division, things are trending in the right direction.
The Magic have won six straight games, and the victories have come with strong effort and offensive consistency. The run also includes wins against top teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Despite the surge, the Magic still sit in the middle of the pack in Bleacher Report’s latest power rankings at No. 14, one spot higher than the previous edition. The ranking points to how well the team has played over the past few weeks.
“The Orlando Magic needed overtime to beat the Washington Wizards on Thursday, but they've now won six straight and are 12-4 in their last 16,” Bleacher Report said. “They're doing this without Franz Wagner is encouraging. And though Paolo Banchero playing more like an All-Star in recent weeks is probably the biggest factor in the surge, others in the cast deserve some credit too.”
A key contributor to this recent winning streak is second-year forward Tristan da Silva, who is showing signs similar to his breakout performance during EuroBasket.
“Tristan da Silva has 49 in last two outings. Desmond Bane, who's shooting 38.9 percent from deep, has been a steady source of outside shooting (and offense, generally),” the article added. “And Jalen Suggs led the team in scoring in the latest win with 28 points. If this team could just keep everyone upright for a few weeks in a row, it may still prove dangerous.”
Now the Orlando Magic are set to tip off next against the Miami Heat, who are playing at a high level following Bam Adebayo’s 83-point performance. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said his team must continue to trust each other and stick to the game plan.
“Yeah, the guys continue to trust and I think that's a, you know, product of us being able to get stops to get out and run and just finding the open man and I think that's been a big key for our group to continue to, you know, stick with that plan.” Mosley said.
