Second-year players Jase Richardson and Noah Penda are back for another Summer League slate, and they are in a leadership role as a result of the experience they accrued during their rookie year. Richardson recently met with the media to discuss his major goals this upcoming season and how he plans to take a major leap.
Here's what Richardson had to say in his most recent interview as Summer League comes to a conclusion.
On how beneficial the Summer League experience has been for his development:
"I think it's been super helpful, especially for me trying to get back to my original position at point guard. Getting back to those reps is big because I haven't really played on the ball as much over the last two years. So just getting used to being a point guard, being a leader, and coming out here and being aggressive has been key."
On his growth and comfort level running the point:
"I feel super improved. A lot of credit goes to watching film—I'm a film junkie. I spend a lot of time watching different guys around the league, as well as studying my own film to see where I can make better reads and get my teammates involved."
On physical improvements and overall court awareness:
"My body feels a lot stronger, especially when driving to the basket. Beyond that, my reads coming off the pick-and-roll have been a lot better, and I feel like I've become a much better defender."
On the development and confidence of teammate Noah Penda:
"His confidence is really coming along. A lot of it with him is all about confidence—offensively, seeing that confidence grow with his jumper and his drives is huge for him. Defensively, he already knows he can guard anybody on the floor."
On the team's excitement for the upcoming season:
"You're always super excited coming into a new season. It's a whole new opportunity and a fresh perspective for us with a new coaching staff and a clean slate. We just want to come back, be ready, and make some noise this year."
